and I'm still not into it. I find it slow, I have no idea who's who apart from McNulty, the black female cop and De'Angelo. I'm not really sure of the finer points of what's going on. Only that some people are selling drugs and the cops are trying to catch them. Who's Omar and what's he up to?

Anyway, everyone says its the best thing going, so do I keep plodding on? Or do I admit its not for me? Why's there all the fuss about it?

took me ages to get into the wire, dp had it on dvd and was raving on about it, so i gave it another go and now that i have seen it all, it is brilliant, keep plodding on, once you do get into it, you wont be able to stop watching!

I agree, it wasn't really until 5 episodes before the end that I finally got into it, and was really glad I persisted.

I agree. Last night we watched the 3 episodes of series 2 shown this week on BBC2. If you had asked me if we would have done this after episode 1 of the first series I would have said no because I really struggled with the first couple of episodes. Tbh I even struggled with the first episode of this series but once you start to see the same characters back again you settle into it. There's a guide Wire& here to each episode if that helps. Keep with it. It does help to watch with dh and we can check with each other if we're not sure what has happened.

Sorry - link not working. Trying again Wire& here. If this doesn't work go to tvguide.co.uk and search the Wire - you will then get an episode guide. A bit like mini Letts for A level English books.

I didn't get past episode one. A friend told me it was the best thing ever, but you needed to get mid-way to season two before you got into it.
Life is too short! I gave up...

Another one who gave up after 4 episodes. Life is too short to sit in concentrated silence after wine o'clock and still be none the wiser...

Nice to know I am not completely insane. I watched episode one and was deeply concerned that everyone else who holds TV views I respect thought it was the best thing EVER and I just did not get it.
So worth another go and persisting then?

sazzerbear · 09/05/2009 19:55

I am catching up with the last two episodes, it's great! Nice gratuitous shot of McNulty's bum in the last one I saw!

I'm someone else whose DP raved about it and I just didn't get it - I watched the first three episodes about a year ago and couldn't be bothered. Then we started watching again a couple of weeks ago and I'm totally hooked! I think persistence does pay off.

It took me ages to work out who was who (all the cops particularly blended into one for me, and I still can't remember which drug dealer/thug is which) - I irritated the hell out of DP by asking who people were and what was going on every 5 minutes. Now I'm into the second series though and love it(especially the gorgeous Stringer Bell).
