House of Tiny Tearaways BBC3 tonight - did anyone watch it?

I didn't like it how Dr. Tanya Byron ( who I think is great really) went into full-on "He's going to sleep in his own bed tonight" mode with the little toddler who sleeps badly. I mean this was a strange environment for the poor little baby!
Couldn't believe the couple with the two-and-a-half year old "Do you want your tea? No? Do you want a brown yog-yog instead?" Please...
Will be interested to see this, even though I think it's a bit much that it will be on every night this month.

At first I didn't think the 'proposal' was too bad-each to their own, but as he went on and on I started to cringe. What was it with all that whispering? And the kids didn't look exactly thrilled!

hit nail on head pixel... I thought the kids look pretty horrified....+ I reckon there has been more going on there (as usual in these 'tv' families).

Do we 'agree' with this sort of programme though???... I am really, really not at all sure.

Also - please tell me it isn't the bib brother house(as it looks very similar- albeit with a lick of pain and some kids toys thrown in!!!)

The proposal just didn't feel right at all. Yeesh.

There is serious stuff going on with the family yog yog. I wonder if they are not able to have any more children as they are finding it so difficult to allow Louis to grow up (not that this applies to all only children of course). And all that rage Dad yog has. He really needs to find a way of looking at that. A bit scary tbh.

I thought it was the Big Brother house too! And I've only ever watched that a couple of times.

It's not the big brother house

I hadn't seen this, watched the 'omnibus edition on BBC2 last night.

I think the 'big brother' format is horrendous (talking into the camera at the end of the day), and no way could I go and live out my probs in a house with 2 other sets of complete strangers.

However, at the end I was in tears, just because it showed what bl**dy good parents dh and I are, and how lucky we are to have a child like ds.
I wish I'd taped it, so that on those days when you feel like you have done it all wrong, and wrecked your child's confidence/affection/ability to love you, I could remind myself how well we have managed so far.

I don't think dh will let me watch it again tho'. He kept walking in, watching a few moments and then saying "these people are soooo stupid, I don't know how you can watch this'. To me it was a bit like a train smash, "don't want to look, but can't look away".

I felt it was very sad that the mother of the 2 girls didn't know how to play with them, she had no idea how to make them laugh.

did anyone see the BBC3 one last night with new people?
I always wonder with these just how did it get this bad? Especially the food one, the 2.5 yr old who onyl ate his food pureed? (actually mum had pnd so that was when it all went wrong).
I am always shocked to see all these kids in high chairs and beign give bottles etc at such a old age. My ds2 was out of his high chair at about 16 mo and certainyl fed himself was before that.
Felt very for the Scottish mumwith 2 kids who don't sleep, what a nightmare. SHe seemed really nice and felt so sorry for her.

There seems to be a pattern in this (well, if 2 is a pattern),
Single parent - sleep problems
Not want to let the youngest grow up? Pureed food and highchairs
Problems in the couple relationship = tantrums

This lot seem to have harder challenges than last week. I shudder to think what the lot in week 4 will be like!!

But my ds2 would still be quite happy to eat in his highchair (he's 3 1/2) although as it was so battered we threw it away when we moved house last month. I see nothing wrong with children being in highchairs as it's much more comfortable for them. Agree about them feeding themselves. Dss were both eating adult food only (cut into small pieces where necessary) by the age of 12 months and feeding themselves totally unaided by 18 months.

alterego I think the problem is when parents are still usign the trappngs of babyhood and thus the child is refusing to grow up iyswim. I've certainly seen these types of parenting progs before where parents have been told to take away that night=time bottle from a 3yo, stop treating them like a baby etc and all of a sudden the sleep problem vanishes.
have to say tho I was desperate to get rid of the high chair, monstrous bloomin thing cluttering up my frotn room.

I have not read the full thread, just the first post . DS is exactly like the boy who wouldn't eat (same age as well). The program yesterday was a real eye opener, I have just tried the "make a happy fuss every time he gets dirty" this afternoon and IT WORKED!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! he wouldn't dare to eat a new thing or to touch somethinf slightly wet and he ate a pita of Spanish tortilla with his hands, even touching the egg. Couldn't believe it

I know this is very shallow, and it's not in the spirit of the programme, but I just have to say that I can't believe how bad that woman's hair is.

In case anyone can't work it out, I'm talking about the mother of the eating problem children. I'm sure she will be removing the extensions as soon as she sees herself on the TV.

I am embarrassed at my shallowness, but I just had to say something.

hilarious. dw and i were thinking the exact same thing as emsiewill last night. that was crazy hair wasn't it!

Report
TwoIfBySea · 10/05/2005 23:19

On the theme of the hair extensions, I am totally distracted by the mum to the little girl who throws wobblers. She has fake tan splodges on her hands!

DH just looked at me when I said it, like I was crazy but that kind of thing means I spend the whole time staring at her hands!

I've just sent the following complaint to the BBC about this programme. Does any one else feel this or is it just me?!!
"I would like to complain about the programme The House of Tiny Tearaways on BBC3. I find the programme very interesting but I cannot understand the need to constantly recap what is going on throughout the hour long show. It is almost as though your producers think your viewers are too simple to remember who the three families are and what their problems are over this period. You continually show the same clips again and again. Is this just to fill in the hour as without these constant repetitions the programme would probably only be 45 minutes?"

Report
tarantula · 11/05/2005 13:45

I agree compo except I reckon itd be more like 30 mins left myself. THink Ill be sticking to watching the highlights at the end of the week instead.

Report
bundle · 11/05/2005 13:47

i often only watch parts of this prog so the recaps can be useful imo

Report
compo · 11/05/2005 14:08

but Bundle they recap all the way through the hour length programme. I wouldn't mind if it was just at the beginning like Neighbours for exapmle. They do the same on Mums on Strike - after each advert they recap so yoy end up seeing the same clip about 4 times in the space of 45 minutes. I just hate that they think the world has gone stupid!!

I think it's because they now think that none of us has an attention span of more than 4 minutes, so we swqitch from channel to channel, hence watches a programme right the way thru.

I agree it's annoying, but it is catching. Other progs (e.g. location location) does the same thing after each commercial break.

I do wonder if the producers of this prog. do this ready for when they sell it on to a commercial channel?

Report
compo · 11/05/2005 14:16

I wondered that as it does seem to be at 15 minute intervals, almost like there should be a break but none comes. i'm glad it's not just me that gets annoyed, almost to the point of wanting to turn off.
