For the love of God why do they cast a wooden english fella with a WOEFUL Belfast accent as George Best just because he slightly resembles him???

Maybe as an Irish woman I'm being pedantic but his accent was dire! Made me turn off and I was really enjoying it till he opened his mouth.

I refuse to believe there are no Northern Irish actors with dark hair who could have done an infinitely better job.

Grrrr.....

Ooh but he looked good though! Who needs realism when you've got a face like that?

Bunny, I was told the actor was from the South of Ireland. He was a bit too camp, I think, to play George Best. Definately not the best choice.
The actress who played his Mum (Michelle Fairley) was fantastic, though.
Apparently the family did not want this programme to be broadcast, out of respect for their mother and father who are both dead. They said the facts are not all true, eg the mother was not responsible for George's downfall, she did not secretly drink and the children were not all aware of her drinking.
The father, I am told, was a very good man in real life who had to put up with a lot of shit.

Michelle Fairley was brilliant - really loved her.

The actor is Tom Payne and he's from Chelmsford, Essex!

Think I will persevere and watch the rest of it. Like I said I was really enjoying it till he spoke!
