...as we call it in this house.

I know I shouldn't love it, but I do .

Gentle Sunday night period drama is my one weakness .

Last one next week
I was sat watching last night when Laura was worrying about Alf and thinking 'have you not got better things to do?'

funtimewincies · 09/03/2009 19:11

It's quite sad that I'm addicted to a programme where nothing really happens . I like a good murder mystery where I have to think a bit, so this is a bit of a guilty pleasure.

Laura does need a bit of a kick up the arse, but I think that the girl who plays Minnie is fabulous .

I love the phrase 'gentle' in relation to this kind of drama. I get very sentimental about it, as it reminds me of watching telly on a Sunday evening with my mum, eating roast dinner on our laps.

But I couldn't actually watch it now, because I know that for me, 'gentle' is just a euphemism for 'this will bore you rigid, you know it will'

Mind you, Dh loves it. Well, he sits there for the first ten minutes saying "This is crap", but he watches to the end and I see him dabbing away tears at emotional moments.

funtimewincies · 09/03/2009 19:13

Bless him . Maybe we're just escaping from too much 'gritty realism'.

I've just watched 10 episodes on the computer on Youtube at the weekend. Are there more than 10? I loved it, I'm abroad and it's just so English so nice to sit and watch when I'm homesick.

KayHarkersHeartBelongsToTen · 09/03/2009 19:21

funtimewincies, oo, no, not gritty realism for me, ta very much. I go for ridiculously outlandish fantasy. I am rather envious of being able to enjoy telly like Larkrise, though.

I the kind of nutcase that gets utterly consumed by a programme, I can't just sit and let something light wash over me. If I liked Larkrise, I'd be able to have a lot more conversations with people I know in real life, actually!

ponders digging in for an episode, just to see

funtimewincies · 09/03/2009 19:32

Lol KayHarkers, I come on here because I can't bring myself to have conversation with people about it in real life !

And the strange thing is tht I find myself wanting to give half the characters a slap (don't get me started on that Nan woman).

Therapy needed ?

I love this programme! Sad, but true!!

FlyMeToDunoon · 09/03/2009 19:38

Minnie is LOL fabulous.
I also love Pearl and Ruby. They wear the most wonderful clothes.
In fact I love all of the clothes.
Dorcas wants a slap.
Robert Timmins is away up his own arse.
Love it love love it

funtimewincies · 09/03/2009 19:41

Agree about the clothes. I know that the corsetry is hideous but I want a waist and bust like that .

(stamps foot and flounces in petulant Laura fashion)

I can't get over how they keep just popping over to Lark Rise, nearly 8 miles. Most people wouldn't dream of walking that far nowadays.

KayHarkersHeartBelongsToTen · 09/03/2009 19:44

Yes, the costuming is gorgeous. I'm a big corsetry fan myself, and I know that Dh watches because he's still got a crush on Julia Sawalha in period gear...

funtimewincies · 09/03/2009 19:49

Without a buggy for the babies too!

I used to work with a top old boy who liked to remember his trips to a local dance in the next valley. Only 4 miles each way, but bearing in mind he had to walk or cycle over the tops of the hills to get there, a near vertical climb in some places.

And I hate walking into town (2 miles) !

My favourite is the dress Dorcas wears with the strap and button arrangement at the front.
Margaret Ellison is looking a lot more attractive in this series I am thinking-love!
Thomas is a complete characature[sp] though

OrmIrian · 09/03/2009 19:50

Same here. Definitely a guilty pleasure.

vjg13 · 09/03/2009 20:18

Why aren't Dorcas and the hotel man a couple?
Sorry for question but mangage the odd 10 mins here and there.

funtimewincies · 09/03/2009 20:19

I like her kingfisher blue/green number.

And your heart may be telling you that you want more babies, Robert Timmins, but you're not the one who has to look after the other ones and do all the labour-intensive housework, while heavily pregnant - men!

OP posts:
funtimewincies · 09/03/2009 20:21

vjg - they aren't a couple because she's so far up her own arse that she can't see the light !
