Antiques Roadshow at the weekend - surely that was nicked?!

The wide gold bangle with big blue stones - the woman said her husband found it in a water tank that he was removing from a house. He found this piece of jewellery in it and put it in his toolbox, then gave it to his wife.

But isn't that just theft?

If I had workmen in the house and they found something, even if it was something they didn't think I knew about, I'd expect them to give it to me, not pocket it. I was shocked they didn't seem to say or do anything about it.

hmm maybe, bet tons of stuff on there is nicked though

could it have been an empty house? like a repossession or something? Other than that I would be furious!!! If it's in my house it belongs to me by default, surely!

she said it was an empty house

But even an empty house belongs to someone... I guess maybe I just take a very definite line about that sort of thing, but the fact that no-one would miss it doesn't mean it didn't belong to anyone, and I was startled to hear someone say it so casually!

This surprised me too.If something is found on a property,it belongs to the property owner. If I ever find something in a customer's garden, money ect,I tell them and give it too them-I wouldn't deam of keeping it.
