DD1 is 'into' it, thanks to a later bedtime now on a thursday after scouts.

I sat down with her this evening to watch it, and to see what she is actually interested in.

I am stunned on the language, altho quite why I am not sure....maybe proof that I am actually getting old now.

more tho, it is actually quite scary if this is based on what real teens are like.

am now even more terrified than I was before, regarding my rapidly-getting-older daughter!!!

but she dosent look like that all the time ,when we see her she is just your normal girl with jeans etc !as you could see in the pic with my gs.but when she has all the makeup and her hair done she looks stunning ,my brother [ another one ] has some lovely pics of her

there is a real hope for DD1 then....she is wanting the same type of career and is very determined herself. It is nie to know that it IS possible!

right then, I must drag myself to bed. DD1 has hospital tomorrow regarding her knee (she has a damaged cartilage from our car accident 18mths back), and it is an early one, and no babysitters for the others as I forgot about the appointment until too late to organise one.

speak soon

of course there is hope ,she just has to be very determined and push herself to get noted. if she really wants to do it ,she can,J never took no as an option ! night

she should join big little ,they can stay there till 19 and then go on to further themselves.

Chill psychomum5 you're younger than me!!! I am absolutely loving this series of Skins.

UnquietDad · 11/03/2009 16:28

Is it as annoying as the trailers suggest? I've never watched it because it's always seemed to me to be a "hey, yeah, we are so cool, we do loads of sex and drugs" type programme.

Raahh · 11/03/2009 17:05

UQD-Dh and i loved the first 2 series of Skins, the characters were well written and although there was a lot of sex/drugs/swearing and stuff, it didn't seem contrived, whereas I have found this series does seem to be. I think they have new writers. (Actually we stopped watching it after episode 3, so maybe it has got better...)

UnquietDad · 11/03/2009 17:09

Some of the writers are very young themselves, aren't they? Bit about that. Young People are not necessarily the best people to write objectively about Young People.

Raahh · 11/03/2009 17:20

There were some brilliantly written eps in the first series, in particular. The characters were really well rounded.
The one that stands out for me was where Anwar (the brill dev Patel), frets over telling his very strict father that his best mate Maxxie was gay( something he himself couldn't accept). The response from his father shocked him, as he assumed his father would share his own prejudice.

There has been nothing so deep in this series!!!

Blondeshavemorefun · 11/03/2009 17:48

dh and i are loving series 2

esp cook - he cracks us up!!!!!

pagwatch · 11/03/2009 18:03

I posted on this recently as my 15 year old DS is very very happy with the current series because of their handling of ASD/apergers.
He is a big fan mostly because of JJ being such a brilliant and sympathetic character and the way they deal with his ASD

verygreenlawn · 11/03/2009 18:54

I quite like it, though I always wonder whether it really represents the young 'uns today or whether it's some balding 40-something bloke's idea of what sells at the moment. You know, like oo-er let's chuck in a bit of lesbianism and drugs, that'll work. My dad always reckoned there was never any free love around when he was young free and single in the 60's and I wonder if this is the same!

Having said that, I was really amazed at the way they handled the issue of the girl with the eating disorder in the last series, I found it very moving.

i'm really enjoying skins. totally unlike anything else on telly and a refreshing change. even though i think cook's character is totally ott.
