If I love the Wire - what other box sets will I love?

On series 2 of The Wire and sooooo love it. Being super organised have just ordered series 3 and 4 (5 is a bit pricy so will wait...) but thinking ahead - what other gritty police type dramas will I like? Anyone seen the Shield? Any other recommendations....?

i'm just coming to the end of Season 3, agree I am liking Mcnulty less and less. Daniels with his top off though wow!
Hamsterdam is giving me nightmares though.

I'm just finishing up the 3rd series of The Wire - loved McNulty to start with, but he's such a dog that it turns me right off. Lurve Carver though

Carver (sigh) I heard him (actor) interviewed on Radio 5 last year when I was gardening and almost dropped my trowel! He's lovely...

I have a lovefilm subscription so always order the first few episodes of a series from there before buying the boxset. It means you can get an idea of if it's worth buying.

Can't you borrow box sets through your libraries?

I only really fell in love with The Wire when someone told us to switch on the subtitles . It totally made all the difference.

The only thing that can touch it IMHO is Mad Men. 2nd series starts BBC4 10 Feb.

Just finished series 3 last night........flipping brill. DH said to buy series 4 asap. Zavvi are selling them for £20 at the moment.

Lulabell - I get the Omar thing - but more as a not wanting anything awful to happen to him, cause I love the character.

I'm making my way through the box set of The Wire, all 5 series. I don't think there is anything that will top it.

Having said that, Oz was quite good, and I enjoyed the first series of Damages. I think they're showing the second series this spring.

Carver is in Oz too but a real wanker so don't watch that if you like him!

John Adams is another HBO production, about the second president of the USA. It covers loads of stuff- US constitution, independence etc. and is as good as anything else I've seen from HBO!

Channel 4 seem to have bought it and then buried it at tea time on a Saturday
