Is anyone watching this? Ds is fascinated by it- i have been filling him in on the background, bits of it any way, not sure how much a 6 year old will get.

He was even more interested when i told him i visited the Annexe when i was a teenager- (me and an endless queue of Americans)!

Is anyone else watching?

Just have to agree with everyone on here and say how good this adaptation was. Watched all 5 episodes back to back last night. For me, I was just so impressed with how they captured how claustrophobic the annexe would have been. And was also impressed with the scenes when they could hear noises downstairs and the sheer panic and terror on their faces at the thought of being discovered. It was so well done. Absolutely broke my heart watching it last night.

Thought the cast was wonderful, especially Iain Glenn and Tamsin Greig as her parents. They were both unrecognisable! Am thinking of writing to the bbc right now to congratulate them!

As for the documentary, I watched that today. I would recommend it as it filled it some of the back stories of the group, especially Mr Dussell and the fact that he had a son on the outside. And also showed what happened to them after and how Otto managed to survive. It was wonderfully narrated by Kenneth Branagh too.

Agree that the cannibalism part was very hard going though. The lady being interviewed couldn't even get the words out and had to stop talking about it. Just heartbreaking.

My husband and i went to Krakow in Poland last month for 4 days and we visited Aushwitz whilst we were there. It was the most strangest place,it is so quiet and i heard stories that no birds sing there and its absolutely true. The day we went was sunny but cold and you could hear a pin drop.It was incredibly moving and seeing the room with thousands of pairs of shoes in broke my heart. It sounds like a morbid day out but i actually think its a place everyone should see just to get acknowledge what happended there. It will live me forever.
