I was wondering if anyone here knew when the new series starts? I'm in need of a Winchester fix.

OP posts:

Slash can be het y'know (not that I read it of course) And I wouldn't say it was unclean exactly, not unless, IDK, they were wrestling and accidently fell into a bit vat of chocolate or something.

SPN slash can be all sorts of things... Ruby/Sam, Anna/Dean, Ruby/Anna, Dean/Alastair, Alastair/Castiel, Castiel/Anna, Castiel/Sam and on and on and on. It's a fairly flexible and liberated fandom. Or so I've heard whistles innocently (I might know of a Dean/Sam/Castiel one too)

Meri - yes, Flame is right, you will understand (and shriek, and flail a lot, and going by your post probably go very red and die on the spot)

ShowOfHands · 09/04/2009 18:24

Where do you find this stuff?

Not that I'm interested in reading it. Goodness me no. Erm, Castiel/Dean stuff is it er easy to come by?

Flamesparrow · 09/04/2009 18:43

I've never read any het referred to as slash.

Serenity can provide fabulous links to dean/cas ones

serenity · 09/04/2009 19:45

There's different definitions I think, depending on where you read it (it's not exactly mainstream OED terminology)

As far as I can see slash is usually of the male/male, female/female variety but not always. Ship is a canon/probably canon relationship but that leaves certain het fics, and even certain types of het (genderswap anyone?) with nowhere to go, so I tend to count it as slash too.

Actually, having said that I'm generally confused about the whole bloody thing And I really don't read het, unless it's genderswap, or Faith's popped over from the buffyverse, 'cos Dean/Faith is hot. Or I'm reading DW.

If you want links, I'll do links, but later as I have to go to work now.

serenity · 09/04/2009 19:56

Crap I'm going to be so late.

OK, Layers love this one to bits, and she only wrote it because I badgered her for about 3 months to finish it and bribed her with chocolate.

That's one of my favourites, but she's one of the foundations of Dean/Castiel so anything off her master list (scroll down)

Pandarus writes some fab stuff, Let Him Kiss Me With The Kisses Of His Mouth and The Consequences of Falling being two of my favourites.

ShowOfHands · 09/04/2009 20:04

Serenity you're an angel.

I'm off to read...

serenity · 10/04/2009 01:26

Am fretting a bit that I should have waited, and picked something a bit less... out there?

Flamesparrow · 10/04/2009 10:04

Lol - I will be reading later most likely, it will be fiiiiiiiiiine

ShowOfHands · 10/04/2009 10:19

Oh don't worry. Layers is okay but I cannot get past it being extremely funny and the slight eugh factor of Sam and Dean at the same time. A taboo too far I'm afraid.

The first Pandarus link is erm, very good indeed!

I was impressed by how well written some of it is (sometime writer myself with no idea of the calibre of fanfic) and how well they capture the characters. Interesting that you can write such pornographic filth and still retain an essence of I want some pie/bitching about my brother/existential angst etc. The passion for the programme is almost as passionate as the, er, plot? Actually, the idea in the church one is quite interesting is it not? Filthy but engaging, which I never imagine pornographic material to be.

serenity · 10/04/2009 11:12

There's plenty of badfic out there I'm afraid, but then there's an awful lot of really good writers too - it's just knowing who, where, what. We've been quite lucky in our little Dean/Castiel corner of the fandom, up until recently we've been very small and the quality of writing as been consistantly good (with blips obviously, hey I write the stuff, that definitely affects the curve ). Then the last couple of episodes have caught people's imaginations and we've had a big influx of writers, some of whom are a bit more...amateur?! That's why I didn't just link the deancastiel (Groped by an Angel) community on LJ.

Personally, I need a fair amount of actual plot and depth when I read fiction anyway. Just because this genre happens to be more pornographic in nature doesn't change that. It's mainly written by women, and I think we tend to be a bit more discerning in our porn

And yes, we love Show, there is a great deal of passion there.

Flamesparrow · 10/04/2009 11:14

I am happy with just porn

serenity · 10/04/2009 11:27

Nothing wrong with that Flame, I just get bored with it when it's nothing but porn (but I read an awful lot of fanfic)

Flamesparrow · 10/04/2009 11:31

I'm guessing there have been a lot the last few weeks with some version of Cas's line about being disobedient

serenity · 10/04/2009 11:57

Probably. There's been so many new people on there the last few weeks I've got behind, plus I'm trying not to read atm as I really need to finish the one I'm writing.

ShowOfHands · 13/04/2009 21:11

Dean makes one helluva gym teacher!

Got a bit sucked into Pandarus' fic. DH had a look over my shoulder and tutted.

ShowOfHands · 15/04/2009 16:30

Have I smited the thread dead?

Just call me Lilith.

serenity · 16/04/2009 01:09

Sorry, still here - been doing things with the DCs and neglecting t'internet.

Which fic? Pandarus is a truly awesome writer. I've been working my way through her Buffy and Harry Potter stuff too.

serenity · 16/04/2009 01:10

(and oh god yes, I have a new respect for nasty orange tracksuits now...)

AnnMumsnet · 16/04/2009 08:36

serenity - pls can you email me? ann @ mum snet. c o m? ta!

Flamesparrow · 16/04/2009 08:36
ShowOfHands · 16/04/2009 13:02

Read a lot of Pandarus' stuff but moved on to the other master list now- Strangeness & Charm? Just finished 'The Melting Verse' and really enjoyed it. I do worry about admitting a growing penchant for Dean/Castiel on a parenting site. I'm so straight. I'm a librarian in rl fgs.

Serenity, I blame you entirely.

Only ever halfheartedly looked at Dr Who fanfic and found the calibre excruciating but have been reading some of Kay's and am pleasantly surprised. I do like the Doctor/Rose stuff though.

What's happening to me?

serenity · 16/04/2009 14:01

Am emailing you now Ann is nervous

Flamesparrow · 16/04/2009 14:03

waits for Serenity to spill

serenity · 16/04/2009 14:11

We're corrupting you SoH, didn't you notice?

serenity · 16/04/2009 14:13

She hasn't emailed me back yet, be patient!

hopes she isn't going to get told off
