Prince Charles 'We are amused' show - did anyone else feel embarrassed at Rowan Atkinson?

I really enjoyed the show, Bill Bailey made me cry with laughter, it was all good-humoured, until Rowan Atkinson. Does he really think that Charles would enjoy that? His mother is Defender of the Faith, Head of the Church of England; Charles has said he'll be Defender of Faiths.

This sketch made me feel really uncomfortable & embarrassed. What on earth was Rowan Atkinson thinking?

I don't know what Joan Rivers was like, didn't watch her, she's normally a disaster, but presumably Charlie likes her. Was she OK?

I love Omad Djalili. His jokes about race & faiths were not offensive in any way IMHO.

what was the objection, edam - drunk monks, the omen or old spice?

tearinghairout · 15/11/2008 23:58

What's Carmina Burana? No, not me.

Or the X Factor?

Aitch · 16/11/2008 00:00

oh yes, that too. it's bonkersly great, isn't it? my aunt was in a choir that performed cb with simon rattle. said it was aaaaammmaaaaaazing.

tearinghairout · 16/11/2008 00:01

What, you think that because I found a sketch that was, in my opinion, in bad taste and misjudged that I'm going to complain about the X Factor?

good night ladies!

Love the thread moving on from Rowan Atkinson to storming off about teh X Factor.

My mum was in a choir and, I'm sure, did Carmina Burana and had some vague connection to Simon Rattle [how bizarre emoticon]

Aitch · 16/11/2008 00:14

really? it wasn't a big event where all the north of england choirs got together, was it?

and i think edam was joking...

Tinker · 16/11/2008 00:31

Argh, I can't remember all the details and whether he actually conducted my mum. I just remember her talking about him before he was famous. But it was teh north of England...

EyeballsintheSky · 16/11/2008 11:48

This has just reminded how much I love Rowan Atkinson. Off to see what dvds I can put in my Amazon wish list for Crimble

Beetroot · 16/11/2008 11:53

Whole thing was cvery funny and very clever
Joan has been doing the same routine for years. shame

needmorecoffee · 16/11/2008 11:55

John Cleeses bits were absolute tosh. Painful to wach.

edam · 16/11/2008 12:41

Aitch - filth and general unsuitability for a Christian place of worship, apparently. Writer claimed the previous Dean had barred it and was saddened that Standards Had Dropped.

(I sang Carmina Burana with my school choir when I was 14 - and we were all learning Latin and German so did, um, have an idea what it was all about. Guess school thought performing alongside the Huddersfield Choral was too good an opportunity to miss.)

pointydog · 16/11/2008 12:47

I find that Omad guy unfunny in the extreme. But that's comedy, we don't all get it in teh same way.

edam · 16/11/2008 12:53

Omad whathisface is nearly funny if only he worked on his act a bit more.

Blandmum · 16/11/2008 13:17

I've seen Omed Djalili a cople of times live. He is V funny. the first show I saw him do was called, 'The Short, Fat Kebeb Shop Owners Son'....because he is one.

The next I saw him in was called 'Arab and Jew' which was a two hander that he did with a jewish comedian.

Very funny, very clever and ver, very thought provoking. Far better to address differences in this way than in volence and ignorence.

cheesesarnie · 16/11/2008 13:22

i turned off after bill bailey.

Tinker · 16/11/2008 22:33

I really, really want to like Omad thingy but his tv show was excruciatingly unfunny.

slayerette · 17/11/2008 10:11

I haven't seen enough of Rowan Atkinson's stand-up stuff. He's very funny - wish people wouldn't take everything so seriously all the time. Sigh.

Just watched the link to the devil welcoming people to hell - fantastic! Although also very inappropriate - the comment about lawyers most ill-judged, making fun of someone's career like that

Flightattendant4 · 17/11/2008 10:16

Oh I have just watched it from the link, thankyou, that was brilliant

Kbear · 17/11/2008 10:17

I love this - offensive to teachers and pupils so please switch off if you are either of those... school master
