Never actually watched this before last night - LOVED it, is it always that good?

Worth catching up on iPlayer the one/s have missed this series?

OP posts:
tonton · 07/11/2008 17:05

RA is gay. Have it on fairly reliable 2nd hand authority from a friend of ex girlfriend of his.

Am I over gossiping? Will I be flamed?

Buty frankly it just makes him more unattainable and gorgeous. As happily married mother of 2 my chances were always pretty slim!

tassisssss · 07/11/2008 17:09

freaky - dh and I was v upset about Colin too.

OP what you should do is go back to series one. You can get the box set for under £20 new and then sell it for not much less on ebay. We've been doing this all year as I only got into spooks at the end of the last series last Nov/Dec. We love it, in fact it is about the only thing on TV I watch!

MrsGuyOfGisbourne · 07/11/2008 17:32

tonton - no flaming here!!! Like you and Roisin I don't actually rate my chnaces anyway , so not really relevant.

tonton · 07/11/2008 18:16

Thanks MrsGuyof. Sudeenly your name makes a whole lot of sense....might change mine to Mrs John Thornton!

MrsJohnThornTonton · 07/11/2008 18:25

In fact here goes!

pinner4 · 07/11/2008 18:29

Does anyone questiong how Rupert can be dead, when he is on all the pictures-marketing for the show, it doesn't make sense.
If you go to the website, they don't say he is dead, just "he took the full blow of the explotion", and on the delete bits, Adam(rupert) shows quite misterious, having give a fake adress and personal data??????????HOPE, LADIES, HOPE, I don't think he's dead

scampadoodle · 07/11/2008 18:36

A friend who is a showbiz journo told me [about RA]. She is generally right about these things!

pinner4 · 07/11/2008 18:40

told you what, Scampadoodle? I don't follow

scampadoodle · 07/11/2008 22:44

That RA is gay, pinner.

pinner4 · 08/11/2008 00:42

in real life, or at spooks?

roisin · 08/11/2008 02:58

Despite being a massive Richard Armitage fan, I'm not actually particularly interested in whether or not he's gay.

He's a superb actor, in a whole variety of roles: he's just mesmerising on screen, for which I admire him greatly
and he's got a fantastic body, face, eyes that I personally find extremely attractive.

But that doesn't give me the right to pry into his personal life. I think it must be very tough for people thrust into the public eye in this way, when the gutter press trawl over the minutiae of their private lives.

I choose not to read the gutter press nor sleb-hunting magazines and on here would rather our RA-musings were limited to lusting over his stunning body, rather than speculating about his personal life.

roisin · 08/11/2008 02:59

Or alternatively we do have a 'sleb twaddle' topic, which could be used for such twaddle, then I don't have to read it!

pinner4 · 08/11/2008 20:45

I find bizarre him being gay, and not admiting it, we live in uk, open society to gay people, and why hiding that behind a marriage with kids? I read an interview with him, he is married to another actress, with kids: I don't understand why he has to lie about that, he's an actor, not in the church.
Lots of jeaoulosy around.

Notquitegrownup · 10/11/2008 10:46

Dinny - be very careful if you are going back to the first series, unless you have a severely tough constitution. Spoiler coming up for you, so if you don't want to be warned, look away now! Theres an episode involving a deep fat fryer which left half the nation - me included - traumatised for ages. Someone with the dvd's might be able to warn you which episode it is. It's worth avoiding. Honest. There are lots of other shocking bits, but it does take the biscuit.

ShrinkingViolet · 10/11/2008 11:02

Episode 3 I think for "unpleasantness", although to be fair, you don't actually see anything (persoanlly I found the last episode fo the last series more upsetting as there was a strogn possibility that Adam might have done what Jo was asking him to do (not spoilering hopefully for anyone who hasn't seen it).

ShrinkingViolet · 10/11/2008 11:02

(apologies for rubbish typing btw)

Notquitegrownup · 10/11/2008 12:56

How funny - I am such a coward, and that last episode with Adam and Jo didn't affect me at all. Still go into chip shops very warily, however!

scampadoodle · 10/11/2008 18:19

I didn't realise he is married, perhaps my friend has got it wrong...Journos do seem to love to label people like that! I don't actually care either way, however...was merely passing on salacious gossip & will now get back under my stone.

ShrinkingViolet · 11/11/2008 08:01

watched both episodes back to back last night, and finally saw what you've all been saying about Richard Armitage - mmmmm . Never saw it in Robin Hood (mind you the few episodes I saw annoyed me so much I couldn't watch any more), but Lucas North definately does it for me .

noolia · 11/11/2008 12:14

THAT episode with the fryer was just about the most shocking thing I have seen. Apparently they had a low budget for the first series so they went for cheap to film but gruesome scenes!

RA is getting more attractive, he does have very blue eyes. Zaf was in Sharpe the other day, a rather small part though!

scampadoodle · 12/11/2008 12:01

Oh dear, noolia, do you think his girlfriend minds?!

jenk1 · 17/11/2008 21:36

aye hes a bit of allright that RA isnt he?

UnquietDad · 22/11/2008 12:12

Having an interesting discussion on another forum about how much Lucas would actually have known about the world after 8 years in his Russian prison. He must have had to have some pretty intensive briefing, not just on the technology but also the changed post 9-11 world and the inexplicable rise of reality TV.

Someone argued being in prison does not equal being cut off from life, which is fair enough normally, but I got the idea we were supposed to think he'd been in near-isolation. Didn't he say at one point he'd only spoken to his guards and interrogators? Someone did the tattoos though. Hmmm...

edam · 22/11/2008 23:30

Good point, UQD.

But what I want to know is whether the rumours that they will kill off Harry are true. Because I will sulk and stamp my feet and be VERY grumpy if they do.

UnquietDad · 22/11/2008 23:44

Spooks: The Missing Scenes. I have this amusing vision in my mind of Lucas sitting at home on the sofa (you laydees can imagine him stripped to the waist if that helps) between episodes 1 and 2. In between being haunted by waterboarding flashbacks, he is watching a 2000-2008 'briefing tape' which Harry has had Malcolm put together for him.

We see him opening beer after beer, looking ever more incredulous at the tape, which not only explains the ins and outs of Al-Qaeda's rise, the IRA ceasefire, Tony Blair's second term, the Iraq war and George Dubya, but also gives a quick low-down of the cultural influences of Big Brother, Girls Aloud, property porn programmes, The X-Factor and Britain's Got Talent.

At the end of it he puts his shirt on (sorry laydees), phones Harry and begs to be sent back to Russia.
