Since when do they move a costume drama of this scale from a Sunday evening to mid week - or repeats early on a Sun ev thatclash with tea/bath/bedtime! Grrr - only just realised that its been on this week and I missed it!

LIZS · 08/11/2008 17:59

Really enjoying this. dd (7) sobbed at Thursday's ! Not read it but assume things become bleaker . Odd scheduling though

southeastastra · 08/11/2008 20:46

i'm really enjoying this but agree the timings are wrong and i catch up online

Squitten · 10/11/2008 17:25

I just watched eps 3 and 4 on IPlayer and it's quite growing on me!

Glad that the French murderer is starting to make sense now as I wasn't sure what he was for in the plot, and I'm still totally lost as to the whole Tatty Coram thing but I suppose it will make sense in the end...

Felt very sorry for John - Russell Tovey's a sweetheart

carrotsandpeasifyouplease · 13/11/2008 20:12

i don't understand please explain;

1, Whats with the french man?

  1. Whats with the italian man?
  2. Where did her sister going to the mother of the man who asked her sister to marry him come from?
  3. Why has little dorrit no personality to speak of?

it feels like i've missed an episode but i dont think i have.

MorrisZapp · 14/11/2008 12:39

I taught my DP a new expression whilst watching this: 'chewing the scenery', which is what Ruth Jones does as Clennam's ex.

I love watching this though, I can't for the life of me work out who everybody is or what exactly is going on but it's just gorgeous to look at and the acting is lush, with a few hammy exceptions.

And Siegfried is always welcome back on telly

Just wish I could work out when it's actually on - I only watch it on replay tv. Any Scottish viewers able to enlighten?

rookiemater · 18/11/2008 15:04

Is anyone still watching this ?

I feel like I have invested too much time to give up now, but on the other hand its not making a frightful lot of sense to me. The acting is all tremendously good but the storyline seems nonsensical, plus "The Devils' Whore" is about to begin and I need to watch that on the basis of the title alone ( although am unsure if apostrophe is required or not)

tearinghairout · 18/11/2008 15:09

Apostrophe in wrong place: Devil's, as in belongs to the Devil not more than one. Oops sorry! I've escaped from Pedants' Corner.

tearinghairout · 18/11/2008 15:11

Should be a comma after Devil in that post. Must go & lie down on the chaise in Pedants' Corner.

sfxmum · 18/11/2008 15:11

I watch it on iplayer 2 each time

quite enjoying it

Kathyis6incheshigh · 18/11/2008 15:11

PMSL Carrots.
I read the book and IIRC you don't find out 1 and 2 for ages. I bet Dickens didn't know either, he just thought he'd make the process of writing a serial more fun by putting in some random characters and seeing if he could make it all make sense by the end.

4 is a very good question. The answer is 'because she is a Dickens heroine and he was crap at writing women'.

MrsTweedy · 18/11/2008 17:15

Oh my word! I've just realised from Morris Zapp's post that Clennam's ex is Ness from Gavin & Stacey. She is having a great time playing that character (as is whatserface from One Foot in the Grave)

I think I like watching just for the pleasure of seeing the actors have fun.

carrotsandpeasifyouplease · 19/11/2008 20:48

its hotting up, i thought the old man was going to croak it, looking forward to tomorrow now

LaVie · 11/12/2008 21:06

ok what just happened? I get that Mrs Clennam isn't Arthur's mother but what has she got to do with Amy?

I thought maybe she had the same dad as arthur but that doesn't make sense! And they just married so eugghhh!

Rin23 · 11/12/2008 21:25

Agree with LaVie - was left thinking they were related... was hoping to find out here. does anyone know? Great series but rubbish explanation of long kept secret in plot!! arrrgh

Squitten · 12/12/2008 02:33

Check out the other LD thread where people have explained it all! I was confused by this too...

I really enjoyed this show and will miss it now it's over!

Rin23 · 12/12/2008 09:42

ooh thanks, I knew mumsnet would come to the rescue!

snoopy71 · 14/12/2008 19:27
