I should probably get myself a life, but while I'm working on that could I have a conversation about Space Pirates please?

Have they finally made some more episodes of this? Over the summer I must have seen that flipping McFly episode about 15 times, but I've recently seen some that I haven't seen before.

Do you think that the female Jingle might be the lead singer of Fairground Attraction? They did Perfect recently, and usually they do a Jingles version of whatever song they're doing but Perfect sounded exactly like the original version IMO.

When I was little I wanted to look exactly like the little girl (Honk?) but blonde. I think that button-nose, cabbage patch doll look is so cute. Unfortunately I have "a face with character" (as a friend's mum said). It's probably just as well, as cute isn't such a great look by the time you're 40.

I once saw Ant from Green Balloon Club as part of the Pirate Posse, I was SHOCKED as I presumed it was actual viewers who got to choose the winning tune [stupid and naive emoticon]

Haven't seen him on Blue Peter, but Gethin Jones was ABSOLUTELY SHITE on Five Live over the summer, it was that bad that I was relieved that Eamonn Holmes returned!

snowleopard · 10/10/2008 22:37

I love it - I've got to the point now where I sit down to watch it and am quite excited. I fancy the pants off Captain DJ and the whole thing just has that tiswas-esque feel of a lot of grown-up jokes and stuff going on which actually does really appeal to kids as well. Plus great, real music. Plus sci-fi AND pirates. It's one of the few things 3yo DS and I actually both like. (I despair of his other tastes - he rolls around laughing at Tommy Zoom and feckin Gordon the Garden Gnome )

I thought the Jingles just mimed to the song, some of the time at least?

muggglewump · 11/10/2008 00:12

angelene
I'm a tad worried about you.
You'd rather watch Eammon Holmes than Gethin Jones? (ooh that ryhmes) Really?
I hoping Eammon did not take his top off.

hellsbells76 · 11/10/2008 00:27

I thought it was just me (ovulating) having bad thoughts about captain dj...
I love it, shit jokes, infuriatingly catchy tunes and all. And I laugh my arse off every time they play the extremely gay YMCA too

Kewcumber · 11/10/2008 00:29

oh bran [disaproving emoticon] the girl Jingle is sooooo NOT Eddi Reader.

troff · 11/10/2008 00:32

Hadn't clicked that it was a pirate radio station till now. Just thought it was strange that someone had mixed up pirates and pop music. Doh...

bran · 11/10/2008 10:01

I feel chastened Kew. It was really only for that one song that I thought she sounded like Eddi Reader, perhaps the female rat (Brassy?) was just having a rare moment of actually hitting the notes that day.

Angelene, I had my doubts about the voting system even before you said you recognised one of the kids. I definitely once saw most of them push green but the blue song actually won, usually the camerawork fudges what the vote was though. I suppose it has to be fiddled otherwise the Jingles would never win (although I will admit to being a little fond of their version of The Beach Boys' Fun Fun Fun).

I'm sure I've seen different versions of the programme, where they have the same prog, same 3 songs, but a different song wins - but I'm usually just wandering around in the background, not sitting down to listen, so might be mistaken (and it still doesn't stop me getting the tunes in my head for days at a time).

tribpot · 11/10/2008 10:21

I think SP is possibly a bit old for CBeebies. Ds (3.4) doesn't like it as much as Carrie and David. The DJ has the same voice as Paul Bettany very odd.

Bring back Multi-Coloured Swap Shop, that's what I say.

JackieNoHeadJustABloodyStump · 11/10/2008 10:23

Captain DJ is some comedian - I looked him up a while ago, but can't remember his name - bit like Archie from Balamory - I think they keep an eye out at the Edinburgh Fringe and poach people from there!

JackieNoHeadJustABloodyStump · 11/10/2008 10:24

Luke Toulson (apparently).

tribpot · 11/10/2008 10:31

Sarah Burgess sounds just like various spiderlings on Miss Spider, which led me again to IMDB to find out in America Miss Spider is voiced by none other than Kristin 'Charlotte out of Sex and the City' Davis

Sorry slightly off topic but surprising nonetheless.

Kewcumber · 11/10/2008 13:57

hey Jackie and Bran - HIJACK - go take a look at my Adoption thread and tell me whether it made you laugh...

lovecat · 11/10/2008 22:11

Have come to this a bit late, but whilst DD adores Space Pirates (never sings along but absolutely BELLOWS 'Space PYRATs!' at the appropriate juncture), I cannot bear the constant digital beeping all the way through the show! Does my head in!!!!!

bran · 12/10/2008 11:25

There's digital beeping? I've never noticed it, mind you given the volume (meaning both amount and loudness) of digital noises in modern city life I've probably just learned to filter it out.

OP posts:
snowleopard · 12/10/2008 21:08

For a couple of weeks I wondered round the house and even looked outside muttering "Where the hell is that farkin beeping coming from" until I noticed that I always did this during Space Pirates...

snowleopard · 12/10/2008 21:08

Arse! Wandered

bran · 14/10/2008 10:09

I watched it yesterday with DS to see if I could hear beeping, but I forgot to listen for it and danced with DS instead. I'll try again today. Although, perhaps it would be better not to listen for it as it might drive me nuts once I know it's there IYKWIM.

It's the Zorst report, the Zorst report, aaaahhhhh-wooooooooo!

We were in marks and sparks the other day and they were playing some compilation CD of stuff, and after Kool and the Gang's Celebration, and Blame it on the Boogie by the Jacksons, and We Are Family by Sister Sledge, DS1 turned to me, and said "I think this is The Greatest Hits of the Jingles" which made me laugh my head off.

bran · 14/10/2008 22:39

at ITS's DS1. DS gets very upset if the Jingles don't win, and he often sings the Jingles song of the day to himself before falling asleep. I have to say [proud emoticon] that he makes a much better job of She's Like a Rainbow than the Jingles did.

JammyOLantern · 15/10/2008 13:37

Just found this thread and want to add that I also heart captain DJ!

staysee · 16/10/2008 23:05

Hmm, I would think DJ was nice, but he is almost identical to the guy who my best friend was MEANT to marry last month, but then told her 10 months before the wedding that he'd cheated on her. So because of that I can't find him attractive anymore... I do however fancy the pants off Chris Corcoran from Doodledo!
But my DD loves the Jingles (she's almost 1yr), she giggles and gets excited whenever they come on. Oh and Zorst...

CandleQueen · 16/10/2008 23:14

"Treat it as an excuse not to watch the fucking shiny show whose creators really should be made to stand in offal singing shiny happy people for punishment whilst being hit with a kipper. Give yourself a fucking shiny indeed."

Surely this must be quote of the week?! PMSL!

DS1 loves Space Pirates. I have Radio 2 on in the kitchen most of the day and DS regularly pops in to say "Mummy, this is a Space Pirates song!"

bran · 17/10/2008 10:20

I tried really hard to listen for the digital beeping the other day, and I did hear it. It bothered me for about 5 seconds and then I lost it again. I must be completely immune to digital beeping now, or perhaps my hearing is going with age. [decrepit emoticon]

DS has discovered YouTube, oh dear what have I done. I went on to show him the originals of some of the Jingles songs, and now he loves it. If I leave him in front of the computer he loves to click one of the options that come up after the clip ends and go on to another clip. He's also turning into a huge REM fan [sob] again the fault of YouTube, he wanted to listen to Shiney Happy People and ended up clicking through 3 other REM songs and loving them.
