well on my big list of people whom offend mine eyes they are waaaay down there.

It was interesting, but I still think that in the end these reality experiments are doomed, because it is short shock tactics. So it appears to work a bit but quite likely it would have problems in longer term. Of course!

whether those problems would be worked out, be better, be worse, is hard to tell and would be unpopular to televise.

I suspect their approach would have problems with rebellion and irresponsiblity with regards to engaging in adult world, eg sex/going out etc. But I have nothing to base that on other than my veiw that total restriction leads to a lack of understanding and personal responsiblity when that 'someone' isn't looking over your shoulder.

But hey, was good show anyhow and as I say, they were kind.

I liked how the family were with them too They sort of showed them that there was another way to behave and gain respect from others

I agree it was quite refreshing that it wasn't carcrash tv

I thought they were an inspiring family. Brilliant show of respect for the children & gentle but firm discipline.

I watched this one earlier this week. What a lovely daddy that Alabama guy was! I cried at the end. V uplifting. What lovely children (at the end - I promise you'll like them at the end!)

Blandmum · 20/09/2008 16:14

I saw some of it, and then had a phone call....what happened in the end?

(i thought the bit when the girl realised that her selfishness had cost a homeless guy a bed was very striking. You could see that it really affected her, it was as if she was realising that her actions had major consequences for the first time)

another one who really wasn't expecting to warm to the alabama family - but they were indeed kind and very caring. and he had some credibility because he'd had a bit of a wild time as a teen. I couldn't go as far as they did, in terms of control etc - but there were some things in eth way he was that definitely gave me food for thought for when my two get to be teenagers. which is very refreshing - usually these programs give you nothing more than the chance to shout at the tv and sigh with relief/feel smug about how you're doing.

just seen this.

I want to go and live with that nice family for a while.

I think it would probably get ttoo smothering after a bit, but no family is perfect.
