Cod! not saying that what parents feed their kids on is class related. Just saying that poor school meals most adversely affect those who are relying on it as their only meal of the day.

soapbox · 03/03/2005 13:12

Oops - that should have beeb a dash after Cod not an exclamation mark!

ah blue panda pops - those were the days....

soapbox · 03/03/2005 13:15

LOL - re blue panda pops - our local david lloyd (masquerading as a health club) sells neon blue slush puppies which apparently taste of raspberries

katierocket · 03/03/2005 13:16

ditto soapbox.
ds saw the green slush puppies; cue wide eyes "wow, what's that GREEN drink mummy"

nah, that would make him want it even more!

Blu · 03/03/2005 13:18

In the first episode JO was shown giving his kids a nice dinner, with fresh strawberries and blueberries (DS won't eat them) - and said that he thought that the cost was about £3-20 per child.

I would be prepared to pay more for a good cooked school dinner, and indeed to pay more tax / cuncil tax or whatever pays for nutricious food for all kids in school to allow free dinners - but when DS goes to school he will have a lunchbox so that I can be sure he is eating healthily. But i know my apporach further undermines the provision of good school dinners. .

Bundle - I am sorry I had not understood your comment as a joke

Yes I do get cross because my best friend never cooks from scracth and gave my DD chocolate buttons (which i don't) as well as wostit when she was not even one... and she was dead chuffed: See your kids like junk like everyone's elses.... she thought I was the "abnormal" one

The schools in our area (v inner-city and deprived) ban crisps, choc bics, sweets and fizzy drinks in lunchboxes.

soapbox · 03/03/2005 13:21

I was thinking of Cod last night when the dinner lady said in horrified tones at Kidbrooke that 'one of the Govenors children is complaining'

Could just see codlett embarrasing the Cod mother

As we are speaking of food have you seen this news today "
Many labels on food 'misleading'

soapbox · 03/03/2005 13:24

Hee Hee hee!!!

It was the tone that cracked me up - she would have used the same voice had she just been told that the Queen had just been seen snorting Coke

Satine · 03/03/2005 13:27

The kids and parents complaining about Jamie's food make me want to scream. Good on Jamie for not just walking out. Don't these parents understand about the long term health implications? Or perhaps they just don't care. I wonder whether appealing to the vanity of the teenaged girls might work - get a woman they admire to try to get the message across (a top model? Pop star? Hard to find someone who can credibly recommend a healthy diet, though I suppose!)

velcrobott · 03/03/2005 13:28

Cod - yes I did get cross as she had my kids fro 1 meal and managed to give them NOTHING healthy!!!! it was processed pastas, wotsist, chocolate buttons, an ice lolly full of colourings and fruitshoot....
The smell of my DD's nappy that evening was AWFUL!

velcrobott · 03/03/2005 13:29

I should I was cross but said nothing as she is a very good friend, I didn't want to sound ungrateful for helping out.... when her kids came to my house I made a meal from scratch and her DS ate none of it ! He would not try anything.... I think he had ice cream only.

I didn't but I don't see why she could not offer a fresh fruit - it requires no cooking !
