Puddle - I chop the potatoes into chip shaped pieces and put them in a big poly bag with a tablespoon of olive oil and a bit of salt (if for DH and I) Shake around in the bag until all the chips are coated with oil and then spread out on a baking sheet. Then cook in a med-hot over for 30mins or so.

bundle · 03/03/2005 11:55

blue, you are right about the ritz/cornflakes but i'd go mad if i analysed everything too closely

wordsmith · 03/03/2005 11:56

I add chopped garlic and some dried thyme to my chips. Yum Yum. You can do wedges as well leaving the skins on, Once they're olied and baked kids don't even notice the skin 9or herbs and garlic)! Cook them at about 200 degrees for 20mins-ish (or if you have fan assisted kamikaze oven like me, about 100 degrees for 5 mins! )

Thanks for the nuggets recipes I will try it out next week!

soapbox · 03/03/2005 11:57

MinL - have you tried abel and cole they do fantastic box veg scheme which is very good for the money and some lovely organic mince and other meats!

I buy their meat and it is lovely. The sausages used to be fanstastic but they seem to have changed recently and I really don't like them now

Beatie · 03/03/2005 11:57

Bundle - I sometimes wish I didn't analyse everything so much but once you know something you know it and it's hard not to act upon. If only we could rely on the Food Standards Agency to do the analysing and worrying for us.

muminlondon · 03/03/2005 11:57

I think ease of eating I can't get dd to use a spoon unless it's for yoghurt or weetabix, and she enjoys picking things up with her hands and mushing things aruond. so that's rice or soup out then... but she would probably love pizza, burgers, nuggets, all because they are easy to pick up for a toddler.

muminlondon · 03/03/2005 11:58

sorry, 'ease of eating is an issue' I meant.

muminlondon · 03/03/2005 11:59

thanks for the link beatie.

bundle · 03/03/2005 12:00

beatie, if i analysed everything i wouldn't leave the house because of toxic fumes, so i do pick and choose what i act upon. the FSA website is pretty good from what i remember.

muminlondon · 03/03/2005 12:00

and the abel and cole link soapbox!

Beatie · 03/03/2005 12:01

My dd loves soup and it is an easy way to get vegetables into her but OMG the mess! She's 2 and not fully competent with a spoon. Half of it ends up not in her mouth.

Beatie · 03/03/2005 12:02

The FSA website might be good but they don't appear to have much power over the food manufacturers.

So anyway, back to JO... do you think he gets really annoyed when his DDs won't try something new? It must happen. It happens to all of us doesn't it?

WideWebWitch · 03/03/2005 12:03

muminlondon, I buy Asda organic and there's no hydrogenated fat in it, no idea what it costs but I'm sure it's a lot less than Waitrose!

And I wonder if Jools ever thinks 'OFGS Jamie stop faffing about in the kitchen - just chuck some chips in the oven and sit down'

Bozza · 03/03/2005 12:05

So whats the difference between oven chips and potato wedges? Just the shape. I do wedges and also cubed potatoes in the same manner because they are so tasty and easy IMO. Will add herbs, garlic, paprika, barbecue seasoning - NB not all together

Beatie · 03/03/2005 12:06

You don't have to peel the potatoes.

bundle · 03/03/2005 12:07

beatie, agree their role is a bit blurred, surely it's up to the govt to act upon their advice.

of course the bits of the oliverettes spitting out expensive organic veggies are left on the cutting room floor...

muminlondon · 03/03/2005 12:07

no Asda near where i live unfortunately!

bundle · 03/03/2005 12:08

jools could do v well advertising cap'n birdseye, imo, along the lines of "oh, stuff it" (when jamie faffing around with ingredients) and she just pops a tray of haddock fishfingers in the oven...splodge of ketchup (organic, natch) on plate, kids lap it up..

Beatie · 03/03/2005 12:08

DD awake so I must leave this thrilling thread.

velcrobott · 03/03/2005 12:08

WWW - what do you mean you buy mice without hydrogenated fat???? Don't understand your post...

Beatie · 03/03/2005 12:09

I'd love to nose around their cupboards. I bet the kids aren't allowed biscuits but Jamie and Jools have their own chocolate stash.

velcrobott · 03/03/2005 12:10

Bundle in what way is it easier to put a tray of fish fingers in the oven to putting a piece of fresh cod either in milk or in a bit of oil in a pan ????
