The Restaurant is back for a second season. Again Raymond Blanc is searching for a couple with the culinary and business skills to become his partners. From the hundreds of couples who applied, nine have been chosen from all over Britain to compete for the prize. They include newly-weds, best friends, mums and husbands and a father and daughter.

But Raymond has a surprise: before the couples' dreams can become a reality, they face their first tough test.

Each couple must cook and present one dish to showcase both their concept and their skills. And they have just an hour to do it, under Raymond's critical eye. For them, it's a first taste of the high pressure they'll be under in the coming weeks. For Raymond: his first chance to see the couples in action.

And by the end, one couple's dream will be over - before it has even begun.

BLIMEY !!!!!!!!!!!!!!

one couple will be chucked out tonight

Hearing Raymond Blanc utter the words "I'm going to open a restaurant with you" is, for some, better than Alan Sugar's "You're hired!" Despite the pitfalls, catering remains a dream for an awful lot of nine-to-fivers. Just as in The Apprentice, there's some chaff to get rid of in the early stages as the second series of The Restaurant gets going. Tonight, nine couples hope to take away the keys to their first restaurant - which they will turn into their dream eatery and open to the public during the series. More tomorrow at 8pm, with Sarah Willingham, the high-street expert, and David Moore, the new front-of-house details man, offering frank feedback to Blanc.
