it is good it is well written it is well acted
although the last season went a bit out there

policywonk · 01/09/2008 16:05

OK habb, you've reassured me! I'll give it a go.

There's no escaping that there is a lot of violence in The Wire but it isn't gratuitous or glamorised, it's very matter-of-fact and banal and tragically pointless.

BTW Snoop apparently was a gangster in real life before she got spotted by producers for the series. She was recently arrested again -- news story here

policywonk · 02/09/2008 19:06

'that mindset is not glamorised and validated as it is in the Sopranos' - that's a very good way of putting it Frosty - was exactly my problem with the Sopranos.

Can I ask whether people are doing the weird spacing on bi ttorr enting deliberately? Are we hiding from someone? I mean I know it's illegal, but are there Enforcers out there searching for the term?

I get shivers each time I go past the nail guns in B&Q...

I haven't seen series 5 so can someone answer me yes or no.... does series 5 tie up series 2?

MegBusset · 02/09/2008 20:05

Season 5 kind of ties up everything. It is the worst season by a mile but still better than 99% of other programmes.

Habbibu · 02/09/2008 22:16

God, yes, Ani - that's the amazing thing with that scene - nothing violent happens at all, but it is so so sinister and creepy - fantastically well done.

Clayhead · 03/09/2008 07:46

Loved it. Have finished season five now and we were sad to think it was the end.

Worth buying the DVD box sets as the extra bits and commentaries are good.

Blackduck · 03/09/2008 08:08

We relented and bought series 3 yesterday - bit slow to get going, but am hoping it will pick up......

Clayhead · 03/09/2008 18:55

Series 3 is my favourite, hope you enjoy it as much as I did.
