well done Yvonne, unfortunately I didn't see the episode you were in, although I have seen I think 3 others. I think you were really brave to do this, I know I couldn't! Have they filmed any follow up?

foxymolly · 19/07/2008 23:52

I loved reading your post. Its really intresting to find out what its like when the cameras aren't there. It must have been really tough and I think it was a very brave thing to do.
I would love to hear more if you felt like posting again.

BetteNoire · 19/07/2008 23:58

Ewonny, thanks for posting.
The filming of the child bride being cajoled and lied to in order to get her to her own wedding was very hard to watch.
It must have been devastating to actually be there.
The whole process must have been a life-changing experience for you.

MrsJamin · 20/07/2008 07:51

Fab to hear your view on the programme, Yvonne, it's great that it changed your life. I too found the child wedding difficult to watch, almost like you were seeing someone led to be raped.

I stayed in Malawi for 3 months a couple of years back and it does shock you, some of the things you see when people have next to nothing but yet are generous, warm and funny. I felt sorry that you seemed so ill and hungry in your trip, but its hard to stomach the food when it's prepared in the completely opposite way to you're used to, e.g. instead of scrubbing pans with a scourer and antibacterial ashing up liquid, scrubbing with mud!

Sorry I thought I has posted something but its not there.

An update on things. There is a rumour that they are doing a follow up program for the series and are filming a new series in Feb next year?

Pentis trip is postponed for all sorts of reasons none of which are Pentis fault. I was able to give a speech that he sent me at the Yasuni Green Gold book launch. He got a write up in the Guardian so that was great !

I have self published my journal to help raise funds for the community I lived with .

The above link is where you can buy it. I have not printed many copies as its really expensive and as everyone knows there is no money in books

Maybe we could learn how to live with no money too ? Sadly it seems we may have to . But one of the lessons I keep learning is that people are more important than things

Bopo x
