Is anyone else watching this? There's no way it's real, it has to be some sort of Black Mirror style programme.

I do!

And you could see it had no identifiable features of a card.

To be fair, there was a gameshow based around lots of different-coloured cashpoints called The Colour of Money on a number of years ago, presented by Chris Tarrant, which featured people swiping their 'cash card' to see what their target 'balance' was.

It's just a TV-friendly prop - even if it is representative of reality, and they're never really going to show a person's own actual bank card on TV ... just like the giant cheques for funds raised for Children In Need were indeed representative of actual cheques, except nobody was taking the huge ones down to pay in at their local branch of Barclays!

I have no objections.

The concept fell flat though because people are discussing the show, whether they were hoodwinked , and how they feel about this - rather than the message.

I also suspect it had low audiences.

Just my thoughts... I think people will begin by focusing on the fake show itself, but then, the predatory gambling aspect will come back to their minds when they see the gambling adverts, however cuddly and harmless they like to make them look.

I don't think they're expecting the show to change the world; just highlighting a serious issue in a quirky way. The BBC1 Lifeline appeals on Sundays - albeit they're just factual with no bells and whistles - probably don't get very high amounts of viewers who actively watch them; but they're a presence for those who will see them and find them helpful and want to support them, and also a reminder for people watching who are affected by that issue that they aren't being completely ignored and forgotten about.

Think they stole the concept from Inside No.9 3X3…..

Which I pranked my dd with. Hilarious 😂

How ironic!

A programme warning against gambling hosted by Bradley Walsh who fronts The Chase sponsored by a bingo website!

Yes, this is a bit elephant-in-the-room. I don't do any online gambling, so I don't know myself - are the bingo sites as predatory as the 'standard' gambling sites?

Personally, I'd rather see an outright ban on online gambling sites; or maybe a very low legal limit that you can gamble in a month (again, not ideal as a one-size-fits-all, as a multi-millionaire could easily and safely lose tens of thousands each month as a fun leisure-time pursuit, whilst an unemployed person on benefits probably can't afford to lose £50).

Realistically, I think this will lead to another case of 'lessons will be learned', meaning the odd token sop to 'responsible gambling', but nothing will really happen to change anything. Gambling destroys lives (often quite literally taking them away); but the big powerful, greedy corporations love money far more than they care about people, so they won't just roll over and accept the game is up.

Whatever they claim to the contrary, the problem gamblers are their dream target market. It's no different from banks with credit cards, where they officially tell you off for incurring extra fees and interest and not paying off in full every month, but the reality is that you are the reason why they exist.

Incidentally, it's a different (potential) addiction, but Lee Mack felt so strongly about alcohol adverts when Not Going Out was repeated on Dave that he threatened to pull the plug on the whole show.

In real life, he's actually tee-total, vegan and Buddhist!

He was quoted as saying "I’m not opposed to the consumption of alcohol - “I’m opposed to my kids watching TV at seven o’clock and being told to bet and drink."

Actually, has Bradley personally come out against gambling adverts and tactics himself? On Million Pound Shot, was that him condemning it; or was it just him playing a role that happened to be one of a fake gameshow host highlighting the dangers of gambling?

Maybe he was just acting and reading the script that he'd been given for the job? After all, David Tennant and Anthony Hopkins have played serial killers on screen, but to the best of my knowledge, neither of them actually personally perpetrate or endorse serial killing!
