I must admit I've not watched from the beginning but it's giving Archie's Castle from Balamory!

In 5 years time that pink will be dirty and faded - I hope they can afford to get it regularly repainted.

Copperoliverbear · 24/09/2026 23:29

This is not far from me absolutely awful. Looks like a kids TV show

Foundress · 24/09/2026 23:36

I don’t think the house will have any sort of longevity. How did it pass building regulations? Is the polystyrene flammable? So many questions 😂 The interior reminded me of Nursery or Reception classrooms I have worked in. I felt the couple were a tad pretentious. I felt sorry for the guy’s daughter although her room was nice and she seemed happy living there.

teaandtoastwithmarmite · 25/09/2026 12:31

I also wondered about fire regulations

Polystyrene for construction is flame/fire resistant - there is a standard it has to reach, can't recall more than that.

It's one of the commonest insulation materials used in building and increasingly used in parts of the construction. I wouldn't be worried about having polystyrene in the build, I don't see that colour looking good after five years in northern light and London dirt.

I watched this last night and I found the couple really irritating. The bright coloured outfits, pocket banana would has been okayish if it wasnt that they insisted on matching outfits so its just seemed a bit childish and unconfortable.

The programme only shows the side they want to see, but it was still obvious that the couple were incompetent and that away from the cameras were probably increasing their anxiety medication.

The couple who bought the house were polite but obviously incredibly pissed off.

I absolutely hated the house and the kitchen was even worse. I cant believe they were allowed to knock down the original to do it.

Each to their own tho....

MalteserGeezee · 25/09/2026 15:30

I spent the whole episode wondering if Tweedledum and Tweedledee ever accidentally grab each other's matching specs/boiler suits/red cravats as they hurry out the house in the morning...they seemed delighted with the house though, so good for them I guess.

It was the other couple that confused me more. They seemed like very unwhimsical people to have chosen such a whimsical house.

JoyousWriter · 25/09/2026 15:53

Why was he cos playing David Hockney and she as Aunt Sally in Worzel Gummidge?

Fuckitydoodah · 25/09/2026 16:06

I'm not sure I can finish watching the episode. They're incredibly irritating.

I didn't much care for that design and found the matching boiler suits twee beyond belief but they brought in two houses with a very unusual build, one on budget and the other very close to budget. Few people manage that.

Annoying, yes. Incompetent would not get two houses built in Kentish Town near on budget.

I was surprised they gained planning permission for that particular design but not surprised they had consent to redevelop the plot. There is plenty of housing stock of that age which is just not very good, in need of major work and not of special architectural merit. We need new as well as some of the old.

Fuckitydoodah · 25/09/2026 18:49

God, it's absolutely hideous. It looks like a cbeebies set. It would give me a migraine living there. Next doors interior is much nicer.

MyballsareSandy2015 · 26/09/2026 08:35

Shocking design, like a bloody nursery school.

I really don’t understand planning permission … we weren’t allowed to put a bloody Juliet balcony on our bedroom extension (that doesn’t overlook anyone) … yet they were given permission for that monstrosity 😳

Ratherhaveacupofteaandabiscuit · 26/09/2026 09:01

Why did they think that “fun” equals dressing as giant toddlers and living in a playschool set?
It seemed like a weird fetish to me and I found myself wondering if he favours adult nappies.

ThisOldThang · 29/09/2026 23:32

He seemed like a total arsehole. Kicking the first builder off the job because he thought a window was 35mm too far to the right without even consulting with the other couple. He then fucked up his measuring and ordered arches that didn't fit and they ended up having to pay £40k to have it rendered, which I'm guessing is going to crack and flake off within a couple of years.

Guardian Soulmates... That just sums up the paper's writers and readership perfectly.

CrushingOnRubies · 30/09/2026 22:01

I’m a little bit in love with Seb from this evenings program. Not often I think this about grand designs but I want to know how much an estate agent would value that house for.

cattac · 30/09/2026 22:07

Seb and his grandad (and the whole family) were brilliant❤

elgreco · Yesterday 20:35

Matching oufits were disturbing.....firing someone for a 35mm discrepancy and then making worse measurement errors yourself is so embarrassing.

Seb and family were a delight, i think he may have been leaving his clothes in his grandparents house though, i didn't see any wardrobes.

PastySausageStew · Yesterday 20:50

Seb's house was beautiful, and the contrast between his grounded, considered, intelligent attitude vs Mrs and Mrs Tumble was biting.
