Winter is coming soon to ITV, and the new crime drama combines two of our favourite things – Richard Armitage looking steely and mysterious, with a compelling police procedural.

Described as a “captivating” new series, it positions fan favourite Richard in the leading role as Dr Ethan Winter.

He’s an “unconventional forensic pathologist whose brilliance, sharp intellect and rule-breaking approach helps the police solve some of the most complex murder cases”.

Yes, readers, he’s a maverick.

Even better, he has a deeply-buried secret that none of his colleagues know about… What more could you want from a crime drama?!

ITV’s Winter introduces Dr Ethan Winter, one of the most gifted pathologists of his generation.

He possesses an “extraordinary analytical mind”, which is capable of “impeccable deductive reasoning”.

Ethan uses his brilliant mind to help police solve some of the Bristol’s most complex murder cases.

His methods “perfectly complement” those of DI Lauren Bell. She’s a meticulous, no-nonsense detective who is as driven as Winter when working on a case.

Together they make a formidable team, as “Winter’s genius and insight into the victims is invaluable to Bell and her murder squad detectives”.

Yet viewers eventually discover that Winter is harbouring a secret…

The ITV synopsis tells us: “The unsolved murder of someone close to him still haunts his every move.

And he’s intent on unofficially investigating the death to bring the murderer to justice.

This personal thread runs beneath the six-part series, with each episode featuring its own compelling, self-contained crime story.”

Richard Armitage (https://www.tvguide.co.uk/articles/missing-you-richard-armitage-harlan-coben-collaborations/) stars as gifted pathologist Dr Ethan Winter in the cast of Winter on ITV.

Of course, the actor is known for his role in multiple Harlan Coben thrillers, as well as playing Guy of Gisborne in Robin Hood, Daniel Miller in Berlin Storm, and Lucas North in Spooks.

Missing You star Richard Armitage: Why he keeps returning to Harlan Coben

The actor is about to play his fourth character straight out of a Harlan Coben suspense novel.

Oh gawd, RA is one of the executive producers and I've been slagging it off. Sorry Rich.

the80sweregreat · 14/10/2026 21:08

Another lovely house. I have so much house envy on these dramas.
Despite not having a clue , Dh is watching this so I’m dipping in and out to gawp at the houses !

LittlePinkWeed · 14/10/2026 21:28

Why does he have a stethoscope? He's a pathologist, he deals with dead people.

the80sweregreat · 14/10/2026 21:29

Nothing makes sense with this show.

LittlePinkWeed · 14/10/2026 21:38

Is it going to turn out that Lauren doesn't like jazz and Winter will know the husband was lying about the record?

Good call

the80sweregreat · 14/10/2026 21:41

Shades of love actually there with the record!

I do like Annabel Scholey in this. The acting from everyone is good but the storylines are poor.

Blondeshavemorefun · 14/10/2026 21:54

🙀🙀🙀🙀🙀 he can’t do that

Presumably he has to check they’re dead first 😂😂😂😂(Joke just in case someone didn’t realise!)

Every episode I watch gets more ridiculous! Why was a pathologist allowed to go into a Police interview room and start examining a suspect? The two of them walking through the crime scene throwing out opinions on what happened as if they were fact? I can’t stand all the dead fiancée stuff either.

LittlePinkWeed · 14/10/2026 22:01

Thought Lauren might arrest him at the end of that!

PrincessScarlett · 14/10/2026 22:03

I like the dead fiancée stuff. I think it's more interesting than the actual murders.

I don’t mind the dead fiancée story line. It’s him having conversations with her that annoy me along with him chatting to the dead bodies.

JaneJeffer · 14/10/2026 22:14

I’m half watching on +1

I hate his special talking to dead people voice 🌚

JaneJeffer · 14/10/2026 22:30

Wow he diagnosed Adult Inclusion Conjunctivitis just from looking at him - no laboratory needed.

Edited

I like that Simone brings out a different side to Ethan as he's quite buttoned up most of the time. The dancing in episode 1 made be tearful as he was so happy. Then the speech about Simone tonight was full of emotion.

Agree that the talking to the dead is a bit creepy and weird. Given how Ethan has done some highly dodgy things I wouldn't be surprised if there is a sinister twist to his character.

Despite the farcical elements RA is a fantastic actor.

He's a clever boy! 🤣

PrincessScarlett · 14/10/2026 22:54

And as for Lauren saying at the end that she can't trust Ethan anymore, of course she does. She trusts his judgment on everything, including her cheating husband. She's very calm for someone suspicious of her husband. Perhaps he has form and has done it before?

JaneJeffer · 14/10/2026 22:58

What did she say? Was it Pegasus?

The syringe to the neck made me miss John Sugden

JaneJeffer · 14/10/2026 22:58

Ah yes the dead fiancée has confirmed it

Blondeshavemorefun · 15/10/2026 10:05

He lost the love of his life. Like I did when dh died

I get why he is how he is and why he talks to dead bodies to find the truth out for their family aka the living

it’s what /why he needs to find out what happened to Simone
