Winter is coming soon to ITV, and the new crime drama combines two of our favourite things – Richard Armitage looking steely and mysterious, with a compelling police procedural.

Described as a “captivating” new series, it positions fan favourite Richard in the leading role as Dr Ethan Winter.

He’s an “unconventional forensic pathologist whose brilliance, sharp intellect and rule-breaking approach helps the police solve some of the most complex murder cases”.

Yes, readers, he’s a maverick.

Even better, he has a deeply-buried secret that none of his colleagues know about… What more could you want from a crime drama?!

ITV’s Winter introduces Dr Ethan Winter, one of the most gifted pathologists of his generation.

He possesses an “extraordinary analytical mind”, which is capable of “impeccable deductive reasoning”.

Ethan uses his brilliant mind to help police solve some of the Bristol’s most complex murder cases.

His methods “perfectly complement” those of DI Lauren Bell. She’s a meticulous, no-nonsense detective who is as driven as Winter when working on a case.

Together they make a formidable team, as “Winter’s genius and insight into the victims is invaluable to Bell and her murder squad detectives”.

Yet viewers eventually discover that Winter is harbouring a secret…

The ITV synopsis tells us: “The unsolved murder of someone close to him still haunts his every move.

And he’s intent on unofficially investigating the death to bring the murderer to justice.

This personal thread runs beneath the six-part series, with each episode featuring its own compelling, self-contained crime story.”

Richard Armitage (https://www.tvguide.co.uk/articles/missing-you-richard-armitage-harlan-coben-collaborations/) stars as gifted pathologist Dr Ethan Winter in the cast of Winter on ITV.

Of course, the actor is known for his role in multiple Harlan Coben thrillers, as well as playing Guy of Gisborne in Robin Hood, Daniel Miller in Berlin Storm, and Lucas North in Spooks.

Missing You star Richard Armitage: Why he keeps returning to Harlan Coben

The actor is about to play his fourth character straight out of a Harlan Coben suspense novel.

I don’t often pick up on things, but when the lady appeared with a coffee for him and a visit I just thought it was odd and she wasn’t alive and he was imaging it all.

the80sweregreat · 05/10/2026 18:46

I missed episode two I think , any good ?

JaneJeffer · 05/10/2026 18:47

This thread is better than the programme

"I'd never heard of Richard Armitage"
😧😧😧
You need to watch BBC's North and South.

Over and over 😅

the80sweregreat · 05/10/2026 18:51

Oh ok, I have only seen one episode.

Blondeshavemorefun · 05/10/2026 19:19

It’s a bit depressing. I mean, aside from the fact that it’s about dead people. Like just the character’s moods and the miserable faces and the dull filming.

Seems many of us didn’t get the dead fiance

We watch quite a lot of foreign crime procedural on Channel 4 Walter Presents, and the portraying the dead wife as still alive trope has been used in at least two of them. So we spotted it pretty much straight away.

I thought it was well done, but it was just so cliched it would almost have worked better as an actual parody.

DH kept going on about how you would never use the MGBGT as your everyday car because it's just so unreliable! 🙄

Mymanyellow · 06/10/2026 19:55

Just watched the last one tonight. Really liked it hoping for series 2.

I was amazed the MG started every time and hadn’t broken down yet! Not my experience 🤣

Also Spooks. RA is excellent in Spooks.

RA also now writes books. I've read his debut novel Geneva and thought it was really good. Apparently it's in talks to be made into a TV series.

Blondeshavemorefun · 07/10/2026 13:11

the80sweregreat · 07/10/2026 21:14

I didn’t mind last week’s one, but this is so miserable. I know it’s not meant to be a happy programme , but it’s very dire so far.

Yep! They would ace it

PrincessScarlett · 07/10/2026 21:14

So neighbour that was convicted of killing Simone shouted "she was alive when I left her" or something similar. I guess there is going to be a side story of what actually happened to Simone and why and who really killed her.

Blondeshavemorefun · 07/10/2026 21:14

Not sure why he said you tried to lie to me. He’s dead

unless trying to fake how he died

or change his face - plastic surgery ?

and wondering why so many broken bones etc from years before
