Trailer for the new series just dropped - no transmission date yet though.

Anyone else excited to see how Nigella gets on as the new judge? A worthy successor to Pru and Mary, I think.

Nigella appears to have trouble actually getting food into her mouth.

I know. Looks really strange.

MagpiePi · 09/10/2026 08:21

When they said that Shannon’s biscuit wings weren’t much to show for 4 hours of baking, I thought they’d say the same for Molly’s showstopper cap. It was just a basic cake with fondant icing and some blobs of colour.
I also thought the angel wings covered in paper feathers was a bit of a cheat as they weren’t actually edible.

It must be hard to choose a star baker as none of them are consistently good over the three challenges.

Rice paper is technically edible but nobody would actually want to eat it in any quantity.

Nigella appears to have trouble actually getting food into her mouth.

This is C4 playing off Nigella’s past cookery show MO, which was to portray both her and the food as being oh so sensual. She’d eat and go ‘mmmmm’.

The camera focuses on her eating way more than it did on Prue and we hardly see Paul taking a bite. It surprised me we did so in the last episode.

Again this is sexing up bullshit of the programme and totally predictable. The producers were likely thrilled Prue finally stepped down and could replace her with sexy nigella.

Im trying to put that aside and focus on the contestants and the baking.

Prue was a Michelin starred chef and ran a cookery school - no shortage of technical knowledge there. Nigella is very clear she's not a trained chef but actually is giving excellent feedback and advice. I think that's giving her an edge as a judge.

That doesn't change my view. Mary gave more technical baking advice when judging. I'm well aware of Prue's background.

Nigella appears to have trouble actually getting food into her mouth.

In fairness you'd probably struggle with the forkfuls she takes!

It's like feeding an elephant into a rainwater pipe.

No, it wasn't meant that way. Scroll up and you will see I have constantly commented on how muchy I love her - and the bold mouthfuls are part of the appeal. No stuffing round taking herself too seriously, just getting on with the job.

I was really defending her mouth by saying it is the forkful at fault - and a judge should be taking a good taste.

I think you've taken my comment out of context.

Ah sorry - I read it as a nigella dig, there have been a good few on this thread and I was getting a little fed up with all the moaning and grumpiness. Love her too, if you can’t eat cake on a baking show with gusto, when can you?!

I know exactly what you mean. I'm trying very hard not to respond to every whinge, but if you're basically a fan, it's soooooo tedious. Was hoping we could move on to feel the love on thread two but nope, straight in with the same list of grumpy negativity.

I know this is Mumsnet and grumpy negativity is par for the course but it is basically the same comments over and over again from people who haven't read the whole thread. But again - this is Mumsnet, what else would you expect. Meanwhile over on Reddit they are celebrating the throuple and they/theming with enthusiasm!

We have to bear the edit in mind with everyone.

There’s no editing of Nigella and her ‘ shoving it all in her mouth ‘
Lord save us. A lovely elegant woman and she eats like a camel

BIossomtoes · 10/10/2026 18:57

So what?

I think the overwhelming vibe has been positivity for Nigella hasn't it?

Banjas · 11/10/2026 09:28

I don’t think there is any baker that stands out above the rest as happens sometimes on these programmes eg TGBB and TGBSewing Bee
