Am I the only one who thinks wtf is this & degrading towards women?

The power dynamics change for a lot of characters so while a character might be degraded in the beginning their arc becomes more interesting to watch as they gain power and vice versa for other characters. I think the most degradation of a character in that show happens to a male character.

Yeah but no but.

Much as I loved Game of Thrones in the end, the bottom line still remains that whatsisface wrote loads of rape into his books, So yeah, that.

To be fair, women fantasy writers do that to a lot of male characters, but I suppose less mainstream (which itself brings the debate on why the male fantasy is the more mainstream/default one), and, of course, much less likely to happen in real life.

I find GoT incredibly disappointing. I would LOVE a massively long romantacy series with dragons to watch. Just one without misogyny, violence against women and gratuitous violence!

It has some very strong female characters but there is a lot of SA and violoence generally and last few series it goes down hill and last episodes were not great - too rushed - though the battle of the bastards has some good scenes - ultimatley it did feel a huge let down.

It borrows heavily from history but I think the history is actaully more intertesting and as PP says women in medieval europe did hold power and reglion was one way to do so.

I'd try some of the other series - House of the Dragon or better yet A knight of the Seven Kingdoms or something else entirely.

You need to watch it to see, that’s the point, some fantastic story arcs such as Theon, Sansa and Arya and very strong female leads

The thing is that programmes set out their stall in the first episode or two. If I finish the first programme utterly disgusted I'm not coming back.

That’s your opinion, but you can’t judge 8 seasons on 2 episodes

When people say they don’t like the misogyny do they mean they want to watch shows where the world the characters inhabit is egalitarian or at least less misogynistic or that they think the show is promoting a misogynistic message?

Obviously people can watch whatever they want, but I notice some people treat dark themes as an endorsement by the writer. Characters are allowed to be bad people without the story approving of them.
