Why does Netflix eke out a lot of its programmes? Drives me mad.

Anyone else finding that Netflix ekes out programmes? A three parter could easily be a two etc, or stories unnecessarily elongated to the point have given up on some?

Some interesting stories are made dull due to this unnecessary padding it out. Don’t notice it so much on other channels and just a minor vent. Wondered if anyone else finds this?

I think it’s as programme makers are deliberately allowing for people to be double screening; looking at phones as well as watching TV so there’s more repetition as they’ve only got half an eye on what’s happening on TV

Yeah it’s a response to double screening. They have to explain things multiple times as people miss stuff .

The mushroom murders documentary could easily have been two episodes. Also that one where her boyfriend had murdered someone needs was dragged out a bit.

Ha this is my opinion too. All Netflix productions seem to have pacing that’s somehow ”off”. I think it’s because they commission 3 parts or 10 parts and then regardless of how much material there is it has to fit.

Should I Marry a Murderer could’ve been 2 episodes. The Spy another one. Mind gone blank for others, but we were noticing it on documentaries especially. Sounds like a lot of channels are at it though, hadn’t realised and its due to double screening. Hadn’t thought of that either.

It’s not just Netflix, all TV is like that, especially documentaries and based on real life stuff. I find documentaries incredibly tedious because they are all about style over substance and drag things out and have to talk to the lowest common denominator. I much prefer various YouTube videos that can deliver more facts and detail in a to the point 20min vid than you get in a 6 part tv show.

Channel 5 does this, with unecessary and tedious recapping. Makes things unwatchable.

Yes! The most recent Harlan Koben one with Sam Worthington was far too long - by episode 6 i was just wanting to know who dunnit!

Yes, noticed this a while back.
Monster- Ed Gein was very bad for padding.
I thought it maybe generated more income eg adverts, number of views, etc.

Some programmes seem to consist of:

• an introductory couple of minutes of 'highlights' (especially in reality shows)
• a 'previously on' summary
• adverts
• the actual new content of this episode
• a 'next on' teaser

So we see some scenes three or more times.

Watched “Murder in Suburbia” on C4 the other day. Absolutely terrible visuals: endless repeated static shots of photos of victim and suspects and the same drone shots of a boring suburb. The actual narrative, which was really well delivered by the investigative team, could have been done in 45 minutes. Dragged out over two episodes.

Definitely not just Netflix, all the TV stations seem to do it, a lot of the series could just be film length. The ones based on true stories are the worst though

Netflix is driving me bonkers at the moment, with the new ‘home’ page.
I much preferred the previous version.
The descriptions given to categories of movie or show are individualistic to say the least, and wouldn’t occur to me as a search term.
