It's one of those 'unwritten rules' isn't it? Wasn't there some beef in an Ostapenko match for a similar reason? I think it was against Townsend at the US Open.

I hope Claire and her mates rein it in, and don't get too over excited- or it will end up being a situation like Emma R's first CC match- the pressure really won't have helped her in that situation. Arthur seems to have his head screwed on.

What are net cords?

Net cords are where a shot clips the top of the net and lands over. Very difficult to anticipate the trajectory when it happens so more often than not a lucky winning shot.

A net cord, is where the ball clips the top of the net as it goes over and it's a fluke shot really, because it can land dead on the other side. The opponent has no chance of getting it. It's polite to acknowledge that you got lucky.

It’s a shame really. I enjoyed watching a match on a smaller Court and it seemed less intense.

When the ball hits the top of the net during a rally. It interrupts the trajectory of the ball and often results in the opponent losing the point. Tennis etiquette is to apologise with an outstretched hand gesture. It’s a bit silly because players are often not genuinely sorry, but it’s considered rude not to do it. Zizou was unhappy because Arthur was not apologising and was instead loudly celebrating.
