Looking for light TV series to binge with my son (20s)

We don't watch much TV, but my son's home from uni with a bit of anxiety and I'm looking for something to binge. No thriller, crime or drama - we like quite light things generally. Things we really enjoyed...

Ted Lasso
Rivals
Landman
Shrinking
Slow Horses
The Good Place
Schitz Creek
Succession
Doctor who (classic!)

Can some telly addicts give me some recommendations?

Ive just watched the remake of Malcom in the middle and enjoyed it so much I then went back to watch the original.

At home with the fury's on Netflix is also an easy watch.

Santa Clarita Diet is fun and it’s got nothing to do with diets.

JulesJules · 09/05/2026 17:11

Detectorists? Also Ludwig - has crimes in it, but very light.

Edit to remove auto correct

TheChosenTwo · 09/05/2026 17:14

Yes ds and I really enjoyed Ludwig.
also Only Child I think it’s called, Scottish programme about a dad and his son, gently amusing, no conflict or stress.

Theraffarian · 09/05/2026 17:16

Small Prophets on BBC I player

WonderfulSmith · 09/05/2026 17:17

Ghosts is a brilliant sitcom.

SDTGisAnEvilWolefGenius · 09/05/2026 17:17

Midsomer Murders. Death in Paradise.

WhosGotTheKeysToMyBimma · 09/05/2026 17:18

Ghosts is wonderful. Really recommend it.

Missingguineapigs · 09/05/2026 17:18

Ghosts. Detectorists. Small Prophets. Gavin and Stacey.

deplorabelle · 09/05/2026 17:48

I second Ghosts and Detectorists

Ours are fond of a panel show too eg Would I Lie to You? Taskmaster is sublime. I feel foolish it took us as long as it didn't d to appreciate it. We are also addicted to a YouTube series called Jet Lag the Game

franksmama · 09/05/2026 17:49

Also came to say Detectorists! It’s really light watching and quite uplifting Smile

Chemenger · 09/05/2026 17:50

Ghosts and Detectorists are both very hard to beat.

Ibwah · 09/05/2026 17:54

30 Rock is now on Netflix. It’s one of the best.
I had some significant periods of anxiety and depression and Parks and Recreation for me through that. A very special comedy.

On another note, I moved home in my 20s after university and had anxiety and remember cosying up with my mum on the sofa. It was exactly what I needed. All the best for your son x

glowfrog · 09/05/2026 17:58

Scrubs, Frasier, Brooklyn 99, Parks and Rec

CloudyBayPlease · 09/05/2026 18:00

My sons both loved It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia.

PuppyMonkey · 09/05/2026 18:00

For All Mankind
Lessons in Chemistry
Foundation

Looks like you have Apple TV so they’ll keep you going! Smile

PerryMenopaws · 09/05/2026 18:10

Thanks so much all.
We did really love Parks and Rec, that's exactly our kind of comedy.

Mum cuddles, home cooking and a good TV binge!

Plebs and Modern Family have got me and DS through some tough times

crumpet · 09/05/2026 18:17

W1A

crumpet · 09/05/2026 18:17

Also Race across the world

PeonyBulb · 09/05/2026 18:21

Big Bang Theory

Notmeagain12 · 09/05/2026 18:22

I randomly came across Girls5eva recently and love it. It’s a light, slightly bonkers poke at 90’s girl and boy band popularity.

i only realised second time watching that the actress who played Geneva Pine on the Good wife also plays Wickie Roy on Girls5eva. Brilliant comic timing. Worth watching for her, although everyone else is great too- Sara barreilles and busy Philips are two of the other main characters.

Offherrockingchair · 09/05/2026 18:25

Rooster

Sgtmajormummy · 09/05/2026 18:34

The Big Bang Theory. Although you’ve probably watched it. Good for self-identifying “nerds” in need of friends.

ithinkilikethislittlelife · 09/05/2026 18:41

Detectorists
only murders in the building
