BBC Eurovision lyrics and violence against women - support please!

I wanted to share something important with you all - a campaign that I hope other people will feel strongly about.

This year's Eurovision includes a song with lyrics that normalise strangulation - an offence that is now a specific criminal offence in the UK because it is so serious and so closely linked to femicide. The BBC aired this content without any challenge to those lyrics.

I have set up Our Line HQ - a volunteer collective - to challenge this. I'm a survivor of strangulation whose perpetrator was convicted under the new strangulation law. Our Line HQ has:

• created a petition calling on the BBC to do better: https://www.change.org/p/stop-the-bbc-airing-eurovision-content-that-normalises-violence-against-women

• On Instagram and X @ourlinehq, created free posters and evidence-based information about non-fatal strangulation — worth a look and a share.

The BBC have mentioned this in an article today where they quote the singer as saying that's not what it's about at all 🙄If the act makes it to the final (we don't watch the semi finals) we won't be tuning in.
