I have been waiting for this season for ages and I don’t know anyone else who watches it and I want to talk about it ! What are your thoughts on the whole Cassie , Nate and Maddie situation ??
my thoughts -
I keep seeing on Social Media - “ Nate doesn’t love Cassie “ and the talk of how his character arc isn’t real etc . I disagree with a lot of this - I think he absolutely loves her , is in love with her , devoted to her. Maddie was years ago when he was a hormone filled teen - I think because she was a virgin and he felt like only he had touched her, along with what his Dad was like with him , he felt like she was his and she was the way to show his masculinity. She was fiesty so he felt like he had to keep a tab on her. I would say it was more obsession. With Cassie , I think he felt safer because she was devoted to him and I think that , along with how he could speak to Jules and the softer feelings he had for her - therefore being able to deal with his issues around masculinity - developed him .. now I think he is truly in love with Cassie and sees her as his grounding and will do anything to keep her.
I think the character arc is down to the actor and I do think that forgetting he was abusive to Maddie is wrong but he probably only agreed to film if he wasn’t that guy anymore, in real life I don’t think that part of someone goes away,
Maddie did nothing wrong , she deserves better than Nate and I don’t think she is still in love with him - I think Cassie is her love and she felt so betrayed by her , I think that’s why she was sad at the wedding . Not because she lost Nate but because she lost Cassie. Cassie chose Nate over their friendship.
Cassie - I don’t think she truly loves Nate. I think she’s always craved attention so when she had attention from Nate , who always was so obsessed with Maddie , she felt like she must be special. She’s always had this issue after her Dad , she’s always craved being someone number 1 - so it was then a challenge for her because she felt like she needed to be chosen by Nate and feel like she had been chosen over someone else, now she has him and he is devoted I think she’s probably realised that she lost Maddie and doesn’t really want Nate. She likes the lifestyle and being treated like a princess. I think because Maddie was always stronger than her and was just wanted by someone without trying , she was jealous and wanted to be like her. Now , I think it’s Maddie she wants more than Nate, not in a sexual way , but as her best friend . I don’t think she wants to show Maddie she’s won I think she wants to stick it out to excuse her behaviour- make it worth it. I think if she thought Nate wanted Maddie she would go back to being desperate Cassie and have to keep him but if she knew he didn’t want Maddie and he wouldn’t be with her if they split and it came to choosing a friendship with Maddie over her marriage with Nate , she would choose Maddie .
