"The answer must be yes": MAFS Australia is Black Mirror IRL

I'm a MAFS virgin - recently started bingeing the Oz series 4, so please no spoilers (I'm up to episode 18!). This is why I daren't read or contribute to the recent MAFS threads...

I can't believe I've invested 18 hours of my life in this trash!!! but it's just horribly fascinating to watch people struggling to find an ounce of respect or affection for "partners" they've been matched up with by "experts" who talk like the dodgiest estate agent you've ever met. Week after week, they are urged to "work on it" despite their misgivings, which are completely valid. Everyone desperately trying to perform as a "couple" at all costs.

In the episode I watched last night, one pair (Andrew and Cheryl) were told they must decide whether they were prepared to really commit to making the relationship work (as though that's something anyone can achieve through the right amount of effort), "and the answer must be Yes." I mean really? The guy's a fucking psychopath.

It's like a bizarre dystopian test of groupthink and delusion vs reality, where gaslighting is the name of the game. I realised it's actually like a long episode of Black Mirror, but with "real" people.

Do the "experts" get any better in future series??!? Is the UK series any different? I'm hooked, but always feel a bit dirty after watching it 🫣😖😁
