How does Joel get such a precise beard edges? Threading? I lectrolysis?

When i saw Joel and then his mother i thought 'personality disorder'. Obviously I don't know that, but it is very creepy. Way beyond just having a few quirks.

Wouldn't masking be if he tried to behave like others to fit in? He is doing anything but. I think he has created a persona to cope with his mother. The umbilical cord was never cut. He probably doesn't know how he is himself. Happens to a lot of traumatised people. Not just an autism thing.
