Captive Audience : A Real American Horror Story (bbc iplayer)

I have just watched all three parts of this on bbc iplayer and am completely shocked.

A young boy is kidnapped and held for years but this is only the start of the story.

If this was a drama you would think it ridiculously far fetched but it is actually a documentary although a drama was made about the first part of the story some time ago and before the rest of the shocking events happened.

It says so much about society, the media, America and men even though it happened decades ago.

Well worth watching.

I watched this some time ago , I was familiar with the story , the miniseries I know my first name is Steven , was something I watched years ago , such a sad story and it seems there was more going on in the family behind the scenes . The way the rest of the family turned out , don't want to give anything away if people don't know the story, was so shocking. Its well worth watching .

I'm watching episode 1 now but it's a very odd format

The format's putting me off

Oh god I remember I Know My First Name Is Steven.

During summer holidays in the 1980s bvc1 would show these sorts of American mini series that were dark AF.

Its been repeated since on one of the free to air movie channels. It's an early role for Bryan Cranston before Breaking Bad and Malcolm in he Middle

Omg - thank you for starting this thread OP! I finished this a few days ago and was absolutely traumatised by what happened in that family. I had to do further reading as not everything was disclosed in the 3 part documentary. It's actually even worse than that 😳 I have tried to find the film "I know my first name is Steven" to watch on streaming services for free, but haven't succeeded.

I thought I knew this story but clearly didn’t know it all. Considering what he went through Steven did seem to turn out okay.

I haven't seen it anywhere for years , steven had a cameo in it as a cop , so sad that he passed so young and then the boy he saved also passed young.

Yes, I saw a clip of Steven as the cop. A motorcycle accident death I read. And the little boy Timothy also didn't live until old age - he died of a pulmonary embolism.

Steven's brother Cary is still on death row in California. He sounds very messed up and the whole family appears to have had issues, including their father Del and their uncle too.

Just tragic all round really 😪
