Why is Lorraine on TV today with a hoarse voice? Surely she should take time off

Why go on TV with tonsillitis? You can also pass infection on to others

Yeah it does seem like a dick move to be honest. I'm sure the thread will be flooded with people saying you must go to work with every bug imaginable. It's like we've learned nothing from COVID.

It’s a shame she hasn’t lost her voice completely. She is the worst interviewer/presenter ever. How she keeps her job I have never understood.

Seekingblossom · 04/03/2026 09:53

I’m not a fan of spreading infections - if I was, I’d work for DfE.

I know, I've never got it either. She seems like a nice enough woman but all she ever seems to do is simper and giggle and witter drivel with pretty dull people. It's very inane and low brow. I've heard that she's a very shrewd and intelligent journalist but I'll be honest, I struggle to see it and I wonder why, if that's the case, she's never sought something a bit meatier and more serious to do.

It makes you wonder if she's one of those insiders who knows where the bodies are buried. It's the only explanation. Nothing against her personally but I've never really understood why she has this perennial appeal and seems so iron clad and untouchable when others certainly no less talented fell by the wayside years ago.

Has she said it’s tonsillitis? A sore throat does not necessarily mean it’s tonsillitis . I’m sure if it was she would be too ill to go into work .
I agree with you saying she should drop her show she is dreadful . Also it’s a wonder she isn’t off on holiday, she takes more time off on holiday then princess Beatrice/Eugenie.

CreepyCoupe · 04/03/2026 11:40

Did she say she has tonsillitis? If not, it’s perfectly reasonable to work with a hoarse voice. If I present for a full day, my voice gets croaky. Doesn’t mean I’m ill.

They probably had no one to cover at late notice. TV has to carry on.

Indeed

mumofoneAloneandwell · 04/03/2026 11:58

There has been a concerted effort to get rid of her, by men in the media?!!

Hence the 'where is Lorraine' twitter account - which was taken down just before it was announced that her show would only be on during term time - and would be reduced to 30 mins!

Its nasty what has happened to her, and sexist and ageist imo.

So she can't take any time off, for fear that they will cancel her completely!!

Absolutely, her voice and personality grate on me like tiny repeated torture

mumofoneAloneandwell · 06/03/2026 09:01

Well shes off today, poor thing. No doubt she was terrified to have to do so

Ridiculous

OvernightBloats · 06/03/2026 09:07

She is possibly scared of losing her job - she is probably not feeling as secure at ITV now that her hours have been cut. Also she has been well known for taking time off in the past to the point it became a joke. I think she is trying to improve her reputation that she takes time off at the drop of a hat.

I watched a bit yesterday and it seemed a bit like she was acting like a martyr.

Denim4ever · 06/03/2026 09:24

She's possibly got the virus that's doing the rounds where people lose their voice intermittently and sometimes when they least expect it a fortnight after they started sniffling.
