new 6 part series stars Eve Myles (https://www.goodhousekeeping.com/uk/lifestyle/a65948077/best-eve-myles-dramas/) (Keeping Faith) as gutsy Detective Annie Cassidy, who's investigating the mysterious disappearance of Bristol woman, Sarah.

And the chilling twist is that Detective Cassidy’s main suspect is Sarah’s husband, Headmaster Michael Polly, who's played by none other than Sherwood's David Morrissey. Genius casting indeed!

Gone is a chilling mystery focusing on local Headmaster Michael Polly, played by David Morrissey (The Long Shadow, Sherwood), who becomes the prime suspect in his wife Sarah’s disappearance.

An upstanding member of the community, Michael Polly is inscrutable and likes order and precision in his working life.

Until, that is, he encounters super bright, gutsy Detective Annie Cassidy, played by Eve Myles (The Crow Girl, Hijack) and a compulsive game of cat and mouse begins as she chips away at his veneer in search of the truth.

Beneath the surface of the mystery, lies a deeper exploration of trauma, trust and the legacy of elite institutions.

The series also stars Jennifer Macbeth, Arthur Hughes, Nicholas Nunn, Elliot Cowan, Billy Barratt, Rupert Evans, Jodie McNee, Oscar Batterham and Clare Higgins.

“As brilliant as Keeping Faith”: 9 of the best Eve Myles dramas to watch now on ITV, the BBC, Netflix and more

I hope this isn’t a spoiler. Ask for it to be deleted please. if so but I’d like this here for a reason.

It’s inspired by a true story, the work of a detective who caught a killer of a young girl.

It’s not about that mainly, I didn’t know her, but, that young girl, was a friend of a friend, and I’d like to raise a glass to her, her life was brutally taken away. She was, and would have been, the same age as me.

(I'm not sure I’ll be watch now I know, that as its got to me a bit which is ridiculous as its not about me.)

Sorry to hear of your loss 💐

Intense Rugby Boy's surname is Sedgewick, and the number in the phone was stored as "Claire S". Could it be his father that Sarah was having an affair with, and stored his number in her phone as Sedgewick's mum to avoid suspicion?

Oh. Well spotted and obv wife is claire goose

imagine she finds out /knows hubby is seeing heads wife and an claire goose kills her

Sorry to hear of your loss 💐

She was a friend of a friend. I didn’t know her. But I remember it really well. But I just wanted it put here that she hasn’t been forgotten. We were 17/18. Babies & her life was snatched away. I’m now in my 60’s.

Michael is completely unbelievable as a private school headmaster. Heads have to be good salesmen, to make the school appealing and persuade parents to spend many thousands of pounds to send their children there.

it's also ridiculous that the head would be coaching the first 15 rugby team, he would be far too busy - especially as he only appears to have about 5 members of staff.

Having said all that I am quite enjoying it, it's got a great cast and is well acted.m

Interesting also about the real life cold case. It's two years ago since Jack O'Sullivan, a 22 year old law student, vanished after a party in Bristol, and his mother is appealing on this sad anniversary for any information which might help find out what happened to him.

@SydneyCarton oh I missed that thank you, maybe Intense rugby boy knows about the affair then.

Yes. I think this might be it. Maybe the rugby player killed Sarah in a fit of jealousy to try and save his parents' marriage?

SydneyCarton · 13/03/2026 14:09

@Meredusoleil Yes, that's what I thought too, and he's definitely strong enough to strangle her. Plus he's got beef with her husband, so win-win.

Although the thing with her bank card being used at the pub cigarette machine is unresolved as yet 🤔

moto748e · 13/03/2026 14:22

"cigarette machine" 😂

SydneyCarton · 13/03/2026 14:28

What was it then? I thought the card was used in a pub to buy cigarettes, but Michael and Alana said she didn't smoke and there was no explanation of how she would have got there

moto748e · 13/03/2026 15:14

They did say, cigarette machine, but surely such things haven't existed for decades?

purpleme12 · 13/03/2026 15:26

It does seem a bit outdated but then again I never look out for these things so who knows 🤷‍♀️😆

SydneyCarton · 13/03/2026 16:08

It did seem odd, and Google says the sale of cigarettes in pubs was banned in 2010 🤔I did wonder at the start if it was set a few years ago because Michael was driving an 08 reg car, which I noticed because it's even older than our 2011 banger, but then the diary said 2026. That seems like a strange mistake to make, unless it's somehow significant to the plot

JaneJeffer · 13/03/2026 16:16

Maybe the wife has gone time travelling

worrisomeasset · 13/03/2026 16:28

This shows the danger of visiting MN as I hadn't given the cigarette machine purchase any thought at all and now I think it's an utterly needless anachronism. Why couldn't Sedgewick have purchased the fags from a shop? With contactless payments, no-one's going to notice that he's using a woman's card.

Specialneedsnightmare · 13/03/2026 17:04

I've just finished the season. Thoroughly enjoyed it, brilliant acting and I didn't guess the outcome. I liked the theme of male dominance and how it turns around at the end. Very good watch.

moto748e · 13/03/2026 17:33

That's why I thought it was set in the past. I couldn't imagine a headmaster driving an old banger.

The cats in the car adverts are really creepy

I agree. Can't see the point!

Blondeshavemorefun · 13/03/2026 22:34

Really ? I think the cats are so cute 🥰

I also find the car ad with the cats on it very odd and unsettling. I really hate it , plus cats and cars is an odd combination.

moto748e · 14/03/2026 10:31

Agree. And I like cats! I have no idea what it's advertising anyway, so it's lost on me.

the80sweregreat · 14/03/2026 10:57

The cat / car advert is for Omoda cars. They are made in China and seem to everywhere where I live ( helped by lots of new showrooms that have sprung up )

At points I found Annie annoying. If I was the SIO I would be well pissed off with her antics. She should take a day off.

I agree. She is too involved.
