Animal Kingdom, Netflix (nothing to do with animals!)

I am absolutely loving this. Just about to finish Season 2 and my interest hasn’t waned. In my experience, second seasons generally aren’t as good as the first (looking at you, the Night Manager!) but this is excellent. Pacy and gripping.
It’s about a highly dysfunctional crime family (fictional) and is led by the fabulous Ellen Barkin, matriarch of the family. Only thing is, they’re such a morally bankrupt bunch that I honestly don’t give a shit what happens to any of them. Not even J.
Anyone else watching? A search on here hasn’t brought up anything.
I’d heartily recommend it anyway, especially if you’re ok with a bit of violence 😬 And would love to know your thoughts/discuss.

I saw it ages ago and loved it. I’ll definitely watch on NF. I agree, there are no loveable cockney villain types, all the better IMO.

I saw a film of this name a while back which was really good, about a Melbourne crime family. I’m guessing this series must be related.

Absolutely. The pressure is definitely off the viewer when you’re not actually rooting for anyone!

Yep it's based on the Pettingill family. If you have a read of what they got up to in real life it makes the series extremely tame in comparison.

Another fan here. Am a bit scared shitless by Pope who seems to have no moral boundaries when it comes to wrongdoing, and totally bemused how they manage to plan and execute any criminal activity given how off their heads on drink and drugs they are most of the time. Ellen Barkin is having the time of her life as Smurf, though the more that is revealed of her early life the more I am amazed that her character is still breathing.
