I’ve caught up now. Ismail is very sweet and I’m pleased his dish was so good. I see all three episodes are available on iPlayer…

I enjoyed the programme but enoyed MUCH more all your comments. (I've had to accept that I can't do both simultaneously - too old, probably.) The remarks about packet sauces, crispy pancakes, Fray Bentos pies etc sent me down a real memory rabbit hole. My dear old Mammy was a very reluctant and belligerently unskilled cook until she discovered those convenience staples. She got hideously creative in the kitchen. She dished up a succession of package sauce casseroles, jarred curry etc until we pleaded for fish fingers. I think she flattered herself that she was being creative, God love her, but all the brown stews were indistinguishable from each other. She had a short temper too, did Mammy and once, when my sister looked at her plate of brown slop and plaintively asked when we could have her favourite champ again, Ma announced she was going on strike and wasn't cooking for us ingrates ever again. Unfortunately she didn't make good on her threat but she did cut down a bit on the monosodium glutamate thereafter.

Feels strange not to be shouting at the TV when John claims they're cooking "for Gregg and I" and bangs on about chewmeric.

I really miss John, a great shame.

Although did he do the professionals ones?

No John has never done The Professionals.

The lad with red hair was Tom hamblet 2023. He was brilliant for such a young guy

DP isn’t happy. He likes Monica and Marcus and doesn’t like Matt. He thinks Matt is upsetting Monica’s vibe. Apparently it’s because Matt’s a <checks notes> ‘smug, arrogant, scripted tosser’.

So that’s the running commentary I’m going to be getting tonight as well

I’ve got myself a nice cheddar and jalapeño bloomer loaf and I intend to toast thick slices of it and cover them in lots of botta later!

@TheAutumnCrow I feel mammypotter would not have liked Matt neither (mind she hated Gregg and didn't over like Jonty!)

@Fransgran I am ashamed to say I HATED when mammy did grilled fish fingers. Never liked them (didnt like crispy pancakes neither). I was an odd child. Didn't like any of the easy processed foods kids liked. Always preferred cooked from scratch.

I cocked up tonight. First I put the goose fat in the dish in the oven, spuds on to par boil, went to get the fat out the oven, realised id not put oven on!!

Then as I went to dish up, realised id whacked oven on max to get the oil hot, never turned it down. Cremated potatoes. Not my finest cooking hour!! I blame the fact I'm bolloxed!!
