Love this series. Back next Sunday

tho the rich families who own their own business etc - I hope they don’t do the usual ‘free training’ to the poorer families and then get them to start their own companies

Just watched the one with the Alicante swap and DH and I mused that it’s all very well doing a job that’s your passion, but if it means you’re buying groceries on credit then maybe it’s time to do something that’s not your passion for a few years to get on the front foot for your kid?

Wintersgirl · 15/03/2026 22:26

Just had a nosey at Matt and Danni's business at Companies house, there's only one business listed and it was only incorporated last year so it's not the business they said turns over 2.5 million a year, unless they're down as a partnership or sole trader but unlikely turning over that amount of money per year...

Greyblankie · 15/03/2026 22:33

Bouncy castle for a 10 and 17 year old? Wtf no wonder they’re “poor” if they make such stupid decisions

OnTheBoardwalk · 15/03/2026 22:38

So £500 stock and she can give up her other jobs and starting earning £77k a year

and a weeks holiday on a narrow boat for 5 people including her elderly mother and father with serous health issues. They can go in the bin

Have you seen the show before? That’s the whole point splashing out on things you wouldn’t normally do

i do think she made the right choice returning her new clothes at silly prices and buying 2nd hand stock instead

Yeah it’s not the cost I’m talking about, it’s buying something for a 17 year old that would be more suited to a 5 year old!

Surely she could have found something more age appropriate 🙄

Ah ok fair enough. I did think it strange the 12 ? Year old the other week wanted a perminant climbing frame in their back garden. She'd soon be locked in her bedroom listening to depressing music if she was anything like me

RosesAndHellebores · 16/03/2026 09:21

I have just watched it and found it a bit saccharine.

Questions it raised for me:

Why does the 17 year old have an American accent?

Fine Art at college is a luxury if your family is on the arse of its bones poor, there is a need to be looking at qualifications that lead to regular, paid work, possibly an apprenticeship or if she's creative, look at hair dressing, curtain making, floristry, etc, something that leads to a small business.

If my 10 year old had got into Chelsea Academy, I'd have done early morning cleaning on top of everything else to raise the money and I'm surprised the rich family didn't do something for the child.

Having listened to the mum, as a former sales person, she isn't a natural, she did nothing to build rappprt with the customer, didn't introduce herself.

The poor family were a very nice family.

I couldn't get my head around the mother in the rich family relying on take aways to the tune of £600 pw. The children are at school and that's just lazy and I say that from a "rich house".

The father from the rich house needs more down time. My DH worked those hours but everything re house and children was managed by me. He never had that haunted look about him. Mrs rich house needs to step up a bit imo.

Overall I found it a rather odd episode.

Yeah last week was the same, a little climbing frame for a 12 year old? It was already too small for her.

It seems to be the thing on this program to treat the kids like they’re much younger than they are.

Also £70k + a year selling second hand clothes? Give over. I bet even the massive charity shops don’t make that much. That kind of “venture” gives you pocket money - not a living wage

Greyblankie · 16/03/2026 09:43

Also the little girl last week was very annoying - when she threw the money everywhere, very disrespectful and stupid quite frankly.

I know a few people who make well over 50k from clothing reselling. If you know your stuff, it can be done.

Blondeshavemorefun · 16/03/2026 12:14

Just watching now so haven’t read replies yet / will once seen it all

but £400 on takeaways a wee. OMFG. Don’t thru ever cook in their £40k kitchen

or no nanny or house keeper ?

OP posts:
Blondeshavemorefun · 16/03/2026 12:15

Assume as 3 kids v 3 that rich kids will have to share / which they have prob never done

OP posts:
Blondeshavemorefun · 16/03/2026 12:29

Why the 3 kids can’t sit at the table to eat pizza or breakfast. 3 chairs

guessing Matt and danni will be paying for a carpet and curtains

thy seem a nice couple

OP posts:
Blondeshavemorefun · 16/03/2026 12:51

Tastes like arse 😂😂😂

wonder what mince they brought - maybe the 20% fat one

I can see them buying a cooker as well for her

OP posts:
RosesAndHellebores · 16/03/2026 13:07

@Blondeshavemorefun I prefer the 20% fat one. Brown it to fry off the fat, most drains off and it's far tastier.

Blondeshavemorefun · 16/03/2026 13:46

I find it too fatty and gristly

so I was right. Carpet - curtains - cooker

nice she could treat the girls to art and football stuff

I get poor mum felt bad over spending £500 on two items of clothing

shame they didnt show kids sharing beds tho all ended up with parents

so rich family actually spend the £1900 a week 🙀🙀

£50 spa care set was nice tho a day away pampering nicer. There was left over in the budget

a holiday on a boat for her parents / prob lot the best but they meant well

£500 on stock wasn’t a lot really but can’t see how will ‘make £77k an give her jobs up

the bouncy Castle was a treat from rich family for the girls / tho tbh they cost £200 ish so could have easily been spent from the £1.9k budget

Me too, lots of things seemed not right with that episode, but if your company is turning over 2.5 million then why isn't it listed at Companies House? I know people run businesses as partnerships and sole traders but if a company is turning over that much it would make sense to turn in to a Ltd company for tax purposes alone..I found that episode strange for many reasons

Bearing in mind the target market for the company, might it be run offshore? I know people who cater for that market and they don't operate from the UK, despite having a UK presence.

Unless the rich house build the company significantly, they won't have £1900 pw when those children are all at private school and 75k pa post tax needs to be found.

Wintersgirl · 16/03/2026 15:57

My limited understanding is that Offshore companies who have a physical presence in the UK still have to register at Companies house, perhaps it is run as a partnership or sole trader, who knows but either way I didn't really enjoy the episode I prefer the eariler series!

£400 on takeaways a week!!

purpleme12 · 20/03/2026 10:34

£200-£300 for a bed sheet! 🤦‍♀️

purpleme12 · 20/03/2026 10:54

Although the cooker needed updating,I thought the 'poor' kitchen was an ok size and was nice and light
