Is anyone else watching it?

The Hedge Knight is my favourite novella in the Song of Ice and Fire universe. Hope they will make it justice.

Bertie Carvel as Baelor Breakspear should be good.

I thought it was quite good (although I could have done without all the pooing and spitting which made it seem a bit like it was being directed by a 7 year old)

EvolvedAlready · 19/01/2026 23:21

I liked it. Made me laugh! Dunc is very endearing

Wehaditsogood · 20/01/2026 10:35

IKWYM about unnecessary scenes.

But Dunc and Egg are both very sweet, so I do not mind. I loved Egg's RP accent. Are you from Flea Bottom then? Oh, Dunc!
I just love their innocence in that world. I miss Brienne.

Oh my - how did I not see that coming?

Ep 3 changes everything!

I’d been vaguely enjoying it so far, though resenting the inability to binge the whole thing. It’s sweet, and very amusing, though gruesome. But now, now there’s a story.

Wehaditsogood · 03/02/2026 16:46

DS started watching with me. We just love the gentle quality of Dunc and Egg's relationship. Dunc is a great mentor / father figure.

I thought Egg channeled power and dignity very well, similarly to Baelor.

It looks like the prophecy has confirmed a popular theory about Dunc and Egg's future.
Although how could Dunc be richer than a Lannister, I wonder.

I absolutely love this show
The two main characters are fantastic in their interplay
Is this the main actors first job as he's brilliant

Hogwartsian · 07/02/2026 16:15

Just watched the third episode. We love it. It's very funny. I thought it was obvious Egg was a Targaryan though.

Sesquipedahlia · 07/02/2026 16:28

I did feel a bit stupid not to have realised. (My only excuse is that I’ve been preoccupied recently.)

Wehaditsogood · 07/02/2026 17:18

We have just seen episode 4. Dunc's speech to the lords of Westeros is my favourite part of the book. It was very well done and made me well up again.

Yup, I though as soon as whoever said the sons where missing I thought that one of hem would be Egg

Sesquipedahlia · 10/02/2026 18:38

Oh, Episode 4 is brilliant.

I love this show more and more.

Notmyreality · 15/02/2026 21:32

It’s egg-cellent so far. Really enjoying it.

Wehaditsogood · 16/02/2026 20:08

Just seen today's episode.

I loved how dirty and scary the fight was. DS17 was absolutely shocked by the violence and he is not squeamish.

I am not a big fan of Maekar's, but so felt for him shouting "My boy!" He loves his children.

The next episode must be the fallout.

Enjoyed this so much, sitting in shock after today’s episode! They’ve done an amazing job, gutted there’s only one more.

LaurieFairyCake · 16/02/2026 22:33

Love it so much, hope there’s a dozen series !

Sesquipedahlia · 18/02/2026 04:34

Yes, they don’t spare the viewers feelings in Ep5 - it was punishing. But magnificent.

I too wouldn’t mind a dozen more series / seasons - if they continued to be at this level.

Sesquipedahlia · 23/02/2026 11:38

Finished!

I cried.

Really wonderful storytelling. So utterly convincing. Why can’t every TV series be as great as this?

Wehaditsogood · 26/02/2026 17:05

OMG! That was such a sweet ending.
Dunk is still thick as a castle wall. I can see why they are friends with green apple boy.

Maekar is truly Mom and Dad for his sons. I wonder when we see the daughters.

Lyonel has grown on me.

I wish the next season was The Mystery Knight. But I am sure The Sworn Sword will be great, too.

I’m still puzzled as to how it all seemed to be so honest and natural, when so much TV just makes one roll one’s eyes and turn off.

Hogwartsian · 26/02/2026 22:44

I've just finished it too. Wasn't keen on the long flashback in episode 5 but loved the rest.

readingmakesmehappy · 27/02/2026 11:00

I found the fighting in ep5 too violent - had to hide behind the sofa. Otherwise I did enjoy it
