Am I the only one who doesn't find Taskmaster funny?

I've tried to like it but honestly it's just telly for 10 year old boys.

OP posts:
whiteroseredrose · 17/01/2026 06:13

Hate it. My DC loved it so it was often on when they were at home. I just found it stupid. Otherwise funny people just not being funny.

DeftGoldHedgehog · 17/01/2026 06:17

I think it's occasionally pretty funny but it depends who is on. I enjoyed the one with Susie Dent which was all non-comedians! Certainly I couldn't binge watch it and would be selective. But I disliked it to start with as it seemed too much based around humiliation and I hate that sort of humour.

firstofallimadelight · 17/01/2026 07:11

I find some series are better than others it really depends who they get. It’s the sort of programme I’ll watch with half an eye on my phone or doing a bit of sewing. Why not try Phil wangs series it was a good one.

SleafordSods · 17/01/2026 07:14

I’m the same OP. Like most of the people who appear on the show but just do not find it funny.

Silverbirchleaf · 17/01/2026 07:34

I don’t really get it either.

travailtotravel · 17/01/2026 07:56

I've got no time for it, no. Not funny per se to me. Which is a shame as I love a bit of Greg Davies!

I like that there's always a couple I haven't heard of, like, and then look up and love their work, e.g. Sam Campbell.

It's not gone off the boil for me yet.

I saw him live recently, he was really good.

DrinkReprehensibly · 17/01/2026 08:36

It was interesting when it was new but there have been 20 series in 10 years and it has just become a bit boring for me. It feels padded out sometimes and you start to think certain things are just scripted as there's too high a chance that nothing particularly funny might happen. I think it makes sense that kids/teens like it as it's presumably newer and fresher for them as they probably weren't watching it when they were toddlers. I guess it keeps going because you can recycle ideas with different people and it's not the sort of show you need to watch from the first series to understand it so a lot of people won't realise the similarity between tasks.

CarlaH · 17/01/2026 08:44

Alex needs to either repeat some tasks, use tasks from other countries output or recruit some new people to help create the tasks. He has run out of decent ideas.

BasicBrumble · 17/01/2026 08:48

It's fine not to like it, but it's rude to say it's telly for ten-year-old boys.

It's just funny people problem-solving, often in inept ways. I find it quite comforting TV after rewatching it all during lockdown. There is silliness but also cleverness and wit. A lot of the humour comes from the unexpected.

RaininSummer · 17/01/2026 08:49

Another who doesn't like it. I only watched it once but found it pretty lame. Decent comedy is thin on the ground though Frasier, porridge and Fawlty towers still work well.

Alpacajigsaw · 17/01/2026 08:50

I don’t hate it, but it’s boring and repetitive. IMO

MotherofPufflings · 17/01/2026 09:13

Yeah, I'm not a fan but DH and the kids love it. He took me to see Alex Horne and the Horne section recently and I sat there bored out of my mind while everybody around me was roaring with laughter. I could see why people find him funny but it's not my sense of humour and leaves me totally cold. It's strange really, because we generally find the same things funny.

DappledThings · 17/01/2026 09:17

I think it's brilliant. Just finished the most recent series last week and was regularly properly crying laughing.

Some of it is just brilliantly silly and some is so inventive and clever.

singthing · 17/01/2026 09:27

On paper its exactly the sort of light, easy-brain thing I should like, with (mostly) people I find funny or entertaining.

In practice I can't bear it, and I don't know why! Each time I tried to watch it, I found myself doing something else after a few minutes, so I gave up.

IdyllicLandscape · 17/01/2026 09:32

I think it totally depends on the guests for me. They make or break it. Ones who half arse it or are too busy being their brand (such as Jo Brand) don't really work as well as people who are actually trying but without taking it or themselves too seriously. I enjoyed Nick Mohammed and Steve Pemeberton's contributions a lot.

I'm often surprised to see comedians whose work I enjoy are terribly dull or tedious in this format. When it all clicks it can be a great show, but inevitably it doesn't always work.

DisforDarkChocolate · 17/01/2026 09:34

I can't watch anything with Greg Davies in, fella make my skin crawl.

SeasickSusan · 17/01/2026 09:35

Pinknotpurple · 16/01/2026 23:15

The kids version is better, can't be bothered with the one for grown ups

I agree with this - this is probably the only programme where the children's version is better imo.

I've never been able to get into Taskmaster but caught the kids one and it is actually quite funny. The grown ups one is not for me, but maybe I've only seen bad episodes. Think the adult comedians are a bit too self conscious or something.

Paperwhite209 · 17/01/2026 09:44

It's not my cup of tea either - can't even bring myself to watch it for the sake of Greg Davies who I would happily climb like a tree given the chance 😁

Mymanyellow · 17/01/2026 09:48

Used to like it. Really gone off the boil when it went to channel 4 for me.

macaroni234 · 17/01/2026 09:53

It’s pretty much the only program my family will watch together. We have older teens. We have watched it over the last decade. And discovered various comedians on there. We absolutely loved Fatiya last series and watched some of her stuff going on from that.

its ok not to like it though! Am with the PP on The Horne section though. Found it tedious.

ChocoChocoLatte · 17/01/2026 10:14

@macaroni234same in this house full of young adults. Although we also love Parks & Recreation, Modern Family, Superstore, Shitts Creek, Ted Lasso and Traitors all together tool

HopSpringsEternal · 17/01/2026 10:16

I absolutely love it because me and my 18 year old watch it together and anything that we do together makes me happy.

HushTheNoise · 17/01/2026 10:17

We enjoy having something to watch together as a family. Don't watch if you don't like it.

TonTonMacoute · 17/01/2026 11:09

No, you aren't the only one.

Firstly, the format doesn't appeal an secondly, I know lots of people on here like Greg Davies, but I just find him seriously creepy.
