I don't think anyone has mentioned it, but I love the relationship between Kip and his dad. Very loving and affectionate.

I agree. It took me until my 10th watch maybe to realise he was in the crowds when Scott called Kip down to kiss on the ice. Imagine that moment for his dad!

TheMateofOphelia · 03/03/2026 11:15

Incredibly awkward moment this morning where a work discussion turned to Canada. Thankfully nobody asked me to elaborate on the Canadian produced TV show that would potentially drive visitor numbers in 2026.

I am a professional woman.

FurForksSake · 03/03/2026 11:16

🤣🤣🤣🤣

We have been planning a 2027 three week long road trip for some time. I may need to go and look at some lakes…

We nearly moved to Ottawa a few years ago!

I managed to get a copy of the Vogue Adria issue. This is both tragically sad and very exciting at the same time.
This Sunday Rachel Reid is doing a Q&A in London. Missed tickets for it but it is being live-streamed and I have a ticket for that which I’m looking forward to.

Oh lucky you, these photoshoot is amazing! I found this piece from the interview interesting, I like his ideas for movies:

Not unlike the central entity in Connor’s Transaction Planet, where an alien spirit inhabits a human body simply to experience this hyperbolic, strange sensation we call reality. To learn what it means to have a body. To connect. To desire. To obtain.

Hello fellow Loons! Still obsessed, still rewatching, still lapping up and living for all HR-related content.

I meant to report back on the HR club night last Saturday. It was a bit underwhelming and too light on HR content for our liking, but it was a fun night out. Punters loved our "I might open. I might knock" tshirts, so that was nice.

I attach my next bit of merch, which meshes my two favourite things in the world - something old and something new. Ready to be collected tomorrow and wear Friday to One Night Only. To feel this much excitement at my grand old age!

FurForksSake · 04/03/2026 21:24

I’m glad you had fun, and love that T-shirt!

i rewatched the whole series three times the week, I definitely paid less attention on the last rewatch but it’s great background tv.

I love watching Connor storrie change his face so much throughout and harden and soften depending on the situation. Tuna melt Ilya is soft and open; then steel trap and we see the rock hard face in the club and shower afterwards. At the cottage when he gets picked up his face is stiff and closed, but then he admits being terrified and he is soft for nearly the whole episode. Just the tension when they are eating burgers and Shane explains badly about not telling his parents. Even when they go to confront yuna and David he is only stiff until Shane tells them he loves him.. His acting physically is very, very good. He looks like different people.

Rousillon849 · 04/03/2026 21:41

Thank you, @FurForksSake!

There are certain mundane things that Ilya says and does that Connor manages to imbue with so much nuance and a ton of sex appeal. The burgers scene - the way he says "I think you can tell your parents you're gay without giving them a list of all the guys you're fucking" (pretty much just you, babyboy!), with that gesture (same as "you cut it in half") - so bittersweet and sooo sexy. The leaning on the hockey stick on the ice in episode 1 - I think I may have banged on about this already - such slavic insolent arrogance and yet so appealing. (I have to check myself from liking that one too much because he's meant to be 17 at that stage).

He really is a talent, and I say all this as a huge Hudson fan, too. Shane leaning in for more just a teensy millimetre, after the first kiss, all the undropped tears, his suppressed smirk when Yuna is casting aspersions on Rozanov at the restaurant...

Rousillon849 · 04/03/2026 21:43

PS I attribute Connor's skills massively (not completely) to his clown training.

Oh, and I forgot chewing on the list of mundane yet sexy things!

FurForksSake · 04/03/2026 21:55

Yes, I’m sure the clown is what gives him his physical skills.

The more I see Hudson on things the more I realise he’s such a good actor, I think he’s taking direction really well. I do think they are going to have two very different paths and will have to make careful choices about their projects.

Rousillon849 · 04/03/2026 22:23

Yes, Hudson is intelligent and takes direction really well, that is spot on.

Fatrascal27 · 05/03/2026 00:07

I love watching them. Have watched it all a good few times. So many great moments. Hudson plays Shane so well. They are both great actors. I know a lot has been said about the sex but it’s very nuanced. I think we’re not used to seeing such authentic intimacy. They both went all in on it. Obviously supported by a great intimacy coordinator. I heard her interviewed and loved hearing about it. It’s interesting to me that the kissing is so realistic. They obviously agreed to it as tongues are involved and they are real kisses.

it is a romance story in the classic sense, beautifully acted and shot. The sex is a narrative device to drive the plot.

i watched it the day it came out and have thought about it every day since. It has made me reflect on some very personal stuff too.

The power of good art.

TheMateofOphelia · 05/03/2026 10:53

Finished Common Goal - Role Model, The Long Game and then a rewatch of the show I think.

My FYP on Instagram is 99% shirtless Holanoz. What a time to be alive.

Fatrascal27 · 05/03/2026 11:20

What are the other books like @TheMateofOphelia ? Have only read HR and TLG.

TheMateofOphelia · 05/03/2026 12:14

I'm enjoying them. They are obviously very light and easy reads.

Game Changer is my favourite as the book adds more depth to the Scott & Kip romance. It's also probably the hottest, in my view.

My least favourite is Tough Guy.

It's quite interesting how they intersect and team mates pop up in later books to have their own story.

Ilya appears every now and again to advance the plot like an imp.

FurForksSake · 05/03/2026 12:21

ilya collects queer hockey players like POKEMON.

I heard this. God he’s fantastic character. Well done RR. And so brilliantly brought to life by Connor Storrie.

That’s interesting. I really quite liked Tough Guy. Common Goal was my least favourite. Really looking forward to meeting Troy in season 2 - confirmed by Jacob Tierney.

Rousillon849 · 05/03/2026 18:38

I've not even read TLG yet. I have this odd but very real sense that what I want and need is to squeeze every last bit of joy and delight out of HR before moving on to anything else, especially if it might make me look at HR differently.

I've seen rumours of Hudson in a Secret History adaptation (which I'd be very surprised if they aren't grade A bullshit) and Connor in a Luca Guadagnino adaptation of Separate Lives - if memory serves, a queer drama of unmitigated sadness that we all read after watching and becoming obsessed with Call Me By Your Name.

If there's one thing I'm most grateful to HR for is giving me the sheer joy of an unabashed happy ending to a gay story. I truly would not survive another Fellow Travelers.

FurForksSake · 05/03/2026 19:46

I’m re reading tlg. It’s fun a you can completely imagine the characters saying some parts. Also fun to imagine what will stay and what will change or go.

ICantThinkOfOne13 · 05/03/2026 19:50

Go on to Google and type in "Heated Rivalry", I've just had a right giggle at what Google has done.

I found that when I read it! It really brought the characters to life after watching HR.

It's lovely, isn't it? Rachel Reid was really chuffed and a little overcome when they did it.
