Im Currently post surgery recover for the next 4 weeks plus.

I can’t do violent crime drama so night manager type stuff or Law and Order are out.

We like cozy mysteries as a family. The house is empty and dogs are snoozing.

We have worked our way through:
Madam Blanc
Mallorca files
death in paradise
hustle (bbc serious not murder) but similar ilk
Glass onion films
The good ship murder
Agatha Raisin

I have seen the Reverend Cole evensong one and wasn’t taken with it or the Father Brown one. Shetland and Vera seem a bit grim weather etc

Any ones that I have missed?? I have Amazon, Netflix, Disney etc

Any suggestions? Thank you mumsnet. (Excuse typos I had surgery on my arm!)

Midsomer Murders. There's about 20 series of that! Also maybe Morse/Lewis/Endeavour if you haven't watched those - they might not strictly be cosy, but they aren't gory.

Good call. When I think of misnomer murders I think of 1989 and same with Morse!

I wish they revamped murder she wrote! I used to have them all on dvd!

Sister Boniface
Mistletoe Murder

Lynley (old one not new one)
Queens of Mystery
Whitstable Pearl
Harry Wild
Queens of Mystery
Frankie Wild
Miss Fisher Mysteries
Cannes Confidential
all the in paradise series

Upanddownandupagain · 07/01/2026 11:11

I’ve seen all those you listed and would also suggest:
Shakespeare and Hathaway
Death in Paradise spin offs (Beyond Paradise and Return to Paradise)
Signora Volpe
Marlow Murder Club
Miss Fisher's Murder Mysteries

Weepingwillows12 · 07/01/2026 11:13

I enjoyed Ludwig on BBC recently. It's a guy who makes crosswords trying to figure out where his twin police officer brother disappeared to by pretending to be him and solving a crime each week. David Mitchell.

Also I think the death in paradise has a couple of spin offs set in UK and Australia.

Also shakespeare and Hathaway on BBC. I didn't particularly love it but it's on a par with good ship murder and madam blanc which I also didn't love but could watch.

Old Lynley
Old Bergerac
New Tricks
Beyond Paradise
The Chelsea Detective
Van der Valk
The Art Detective
Professor T

When I was ill, and not wanting to watch anything 'gritty', I watched all the Poirot episodes, on catch up I think, although I can't remember which. If you like Agatha Christie?

MadamCholetsbonnet · 07/01/2026 11:16

Only one I like that I haven’t seen mentioned is McDonald and Dodds

SuperLoudPoppingAction · 07/01/2026 11:18

I'm really enjoying Shetland. The knitwear is extremely cosy. And the pace is fairly slow which i like. I've been sitting and knitting while watching. The first series is only a couple of episodes to see if you like it.

DisplayPurposesOnly · 07/01/2026 11:21

Magpie Murders
Marlow Murder Club
Foyle's War

DisplayPurposesOnly · 07/01/2026 11:21

Annika

I enjoyed Ludwig as well, also Death Valley was really good: Set in South Wales, the six-episode murder mystery series follows the unlikely crime-solving partnership between eccentric national treasure John Chapel (Timothy Spall), a retired actor and star of hit fictional detective television show Caesar, and socially obtuse Detective Sergeant Janie Mallowan (Gwyneth Keyworth).

Lovelyview · 07/01/2026 11:53

I've enjoyed The Mentalist on Amazon Prime and Elementary (some are a bit gruesome but they're lots of fun) I'd second the Death in Paradise spin offs and Ludwig.

Totally Poirot. Especially when they started to tackle the books rather than the short stories.

DearestItIsSnowing · 07/01/2026 13:01

Agatha Christie’s Marple is good, too. Poirot and Marple are both shown frequently on ITV3.

Ithinkofawittyusernamethenforgetit · 07/01/2026 13:02

I have a Columbo box set 😂 but Poirot and Miss Fisher also spring to mind, as others have said. The biggest mystery with Miss Fisher is how she can have a complete change of clothes in a millisecond! Love it. Hope your recovery goes smoothly.

CheeseyOnionPie · 07/01/2026 13:07

I love David Suchet’s Poirot

MamaBobo · 07/01/2026 13:23

Another vote for Agatha Christie’s Miss Marple. Geraldine McEwan was especially good and they are “cosy”. Agatha Christie didn’t actually write terribly many stories for Miss Marple though, certainly not compared to Poirot, and there are a number of stories that ITV had shoehorned Miss Marple into to extend the series…not anything like as good imho. Poirot too….David Suchet is brilliant.

I’d say Morse and Lewis probably fit the bill, but Endeavour was much darker with a lot more menace (different writers). I don’t find Foyles War a cosy watch either.

Jonathan Creek is good…a bit of mild peril but there’s a lot of humour and although they are a bit dated they are all about the puzzle.

With Midsomer Murders, I’d start at the beginning as they captured the eccentric brilliance of Caroline Graham’s writing…and actually tbh I’d read the books. They are really clever and very much more involved than the TV series.

I do find Vera quite enjoyable, especially the early ones that were from the books by Ann Cleeves. I hated Shetland….the books are very enjoyable though.

Not a TV series yet but it would be great would be the Ruth Galloway books by Elly Griffiths. I know you didn’t ask for books….but I think they are just what you are looking for in book form!

PerriDowton · 07/01/2026 13:37

You should check out Adrian Monk. I think you'll enjoy it. I love Poirot, Columbo and Murder, She Wrote.
Grantchester?

HNY. Good health and happiness. x

We watched that and then …after they did what they did not so much.

Is there a new series now?

She was a great role model for my older teen daughter though she loved them!
