Any more shows along these lines? Shows that show were basically all just living the same life 😆 I really thought DH’s family were very odd but they’re just like the Cockfields….. infuriating but can’t be that unusual if been made into a show!

Ghosts 😍
The Detectorists
Motherland
Amandaland

ResusciAnnie · 04/01/2026 19:30

Ah watched a lot of Ghosts today 😍 love it but not the realism I’m looking for.

DH loves the Detectorists but I can’t get into it. Maybe I should try again.

Motherland and Amandaland - yes huge fan! But it’s not got that ‘omg it’s us!’ feeling!

Sorry, I totally skipped over the realism bit.

How about Outnumbered? Very real life.

And American and more sitcom-y but I like The Middle because it is more real life than usual.

ShawnaMacallister · 04/01/2026 19:35

Is this a new episode? Where did you watch it?

EscapadeVelocity · 04/01/2026 19:38

This Country
My Brilliant Friend (staggering, emotional Italian realism).
Daddy Issues
Brassic
I May Destroy You (actual genius on screen).
Big Boys
Marriage (breathtakingly real).
Blue Lights
Industry (unmissable - and the domestic scenes are very real).

Mum on iPlayer, absolutely brilliant.

The cockfields, sorry, someone mentioned a Christmas special the other day and I couldn't find it on Now, but it might be on a different service

Modern Family

CurbsideProphet · 04/01/2026 20:00

The Cockfields was first on Gold several years ago. We loved it and we also watch Here We Go. You don't get a lot of TV without police / crime / murder nowadays. I tried Motherland but found it too sort of slapstick. Sounds like I should try Mum.

Yeah that’s it. Just everyday life with humour for me please!

Two Doors Down? All available on iPlayer.

I love Mum and Here We Go. Cockfields is a funny one - I enjoy it but I feel like there's a dark edge to it because the Ray character can be so unpleasant. The cast are great though and I love David.

DogAnxiety · 04/01/2026 23:27

I’d absolutely second Mum. It’s got a very similar sort of gentle humour, with the family weirdo, but lots of love between them all too.

ETA very similar to Here We Go. Sorry - brain going to sleep.

Oh God, sorry,so it is !!

the80sweregreat · 05/01/2026 04:54

Mum is fantastic! Best drama ever and written by the sane man who wrote ‘ him and her ‘
have watched a few cockfields, but the newer ones with a different dad actor I couldn’t get into. I think his girlfriend was different too ?
Here we go is funny.
Also like the detectorists
Can't think of any new shows like these ones.
Would like mum to come back, but it did end on a high.

Middlemarch123 · 05/01/2026 07:55

Not the same but a great family based drama with a stellar cast is Last Tango in Halifax OP. It’s very funny in places, it’s on I Player x

Maryberrysbouffant · 05/01/2026 08:24

Definitely Two Doors down. The whole thing is set in one house with a load of annoying neighbours who keep popping round, I love it 🥰
Also…Still Game
The power of Parker
This country
The job lot

notnorman · 05/01/2026 08:32

This Country!

elliejjtiny · 05/01/2026 08:37

My family. It's old now (the actor who plays the youngest is nearly as old as me which always feels very weird when I think about it) but brilliant, especially the early ones with Kris Marshall in it.

Maryberrysbouffant · 05/01/2026 08:54

The four seasons was really good too (Netflix)

CherryogDog · 05/01/2026 09:22

I also saw the title and thought there was a new Cockfields episode.
This Country is brilliant.
Also the Outlaws (I think that's what it's called) about a group doing community service.
