Eurovision build up 2026

Yes it is early this year but here we are, back for 2026.

Two songs are out already. I think I prefer Montenegro over Albania on first listen but obviously very early days.

The Scoreboard app has updated for this year. The Aussievision podcast is two episodes in. A new season is beginning.

Ready sad about the controversies and boycotts but hoping for a positive thread discussing the songs as they are released.

Yes - Finland is amazing. Wish they were allowed to play instruments on stage at Eurovision.

i’m not excited about any of the other selections last night unfortunately.

Looking forward to 5am tomorrow (my time) when Australia announce their song and artist. So many rumours!

I’m really looking forwards to the UK entry. Sam Battle (Look Mum No Computer) is a decidedly left field choice, but when you know a bit about him it makes great sense. He’s got a very well established social media presence and he’s already got a following in Europe, especially in Germany and Scandinavia. He’s an engaging individual who builds his own synthesisers, is currently restoring an old tank engine which he plans to put into either a 100yo Austin 7 or a vintage mini clubman, and he’s set up a museum for obsolete technology.
I really hope that, going by his past works, his entry involves Furbys and flamethrowers.

Good to hear some positive about the UK entry @ChequerToRed . I have seen a bit of support for European fans out there and quite a lot of negativity. But let’s hear the song in the morning.

Excited for Australia too @CypressGrove a more civilised 6pm here. Sounds like it should be a reasonably big name from the rumours.

I held off the Sanremo winner until it was confirmed for Eurovision, but now I have had a few listens and I think this is another retro one that I will quite enjoy even if lots of people think it’s a bit dated.

It’s Delta Goodrem for Australia! Lots of excited Eurovision fans on the Facebook groups. It sounds good to me. What do you think @CypressGrove ?

That was the main rumour - she is very big in Australia and very talented! It's not my preferred style but I think its pretty good - we are definitely pulling out all the guns after not qualifying for the last 2 years.
I do really hope it gets through, otherwise I worry Australia will give up trying!

The UK entry will be released on radio two on Friday morning just after 8 am and is going to be called eins zwei drei.

I love Finnish entry so much! Linda was a huge star in the 90’s, she even got a guest slot in Baywatch (which was a big deal for us Finns back then).

New song last night from Romania. It’s a rock song and I like the sound but the lyrics are dodgy imo - it’s called Choke me.

UK tomorrow morning and the positive online hype is building. Really hoping it will be good.

Then four more finals over the weekend. Boy George is competing tomorrow night at San Marino’s final. My System is the big fan favourite from Sweden’s Melodifestivalan.

I do like the Romanian song- I get what you mean about the lyrics, but I still really like it!

Eins Zwei Drei has been leaked. It’s searchable on X or YouTube. I think I quite like it. It’s hopefully a grower. Very much love or hate reactions in the comments which is maybe promising for some votes on the night

Just listened to eins zwei drei and as an 80s synth pop fan I hoped I’d like it and I do! It’s quite catchy and the chorus is a bit of an ear worm which is no bad thing,hope it does well.

I've been keeping up with the national finals etc. but hadn't heard the leaked UK entry until I read about it up thread - thanks!

I really like it. He seems like an inventive and interesting guy and I hope people get on board with it. A pleasant UK Eurovision surprise, what next?!

France’s song is now out. Regarde by Monroe who is 17 and has an amazing operatic voice. Not a bad song on first listening but maybe not very catchy.

Israel’s song is alright. Mid table for me. Michelle by Noam Bettan. A ballad.

The UK song has grown on me massively with repeat listens, the video and his interviews. Lots of positivity on line too. I love it and I think it might finish on the left had side of the board. Good choice BBC.

It seems France have looked at the songs that won in 2024 and 2025, and gone “yep - that’s what we need!”

Surely it’s time for something different for 2026?

I think the UK entry sounds a lot like Finland's Cha Cha Cha from a few years ago.

Any thoughts on Melodifestivalen tomorrow? I personally can’t see anyone other than Felicia winning.

I'm hoping for a Felicia win. I really like her song and she's a great performer. I'd love to see My System live in Vienna.

Medina are good but I preferred their previous entry and same goes for Meira Omar. Maybe Sanna Nielsen is the main competitor for Felicia but I'm not inspired by Waste Your Love. It's so like another song but I can't put my finger on it.

Despite my username, I switched off the San Marino final tonight. I was not feeling it and I assume Senhit (and Boy George 😧) will win. Tommy Cash isn't a draw for me as the interval act either.

The UK entry is certainly different to anything by Jessica Garlick or Bonnie Tyler! It is a bit of a novelty hit feel to it. Might even spawn its own dance to go with it.

I agree. In fact I went back and looked at last year’s playlist and realised just how weak it was. This year seems stronger.

Yes, there are loads of songs I really like this year. It’s going be a good one. Not sure I am adding Superstar from San Marino to that list though but hope Boy George performs his little bit in person in Vienna.

So last night Felicia won in Sweden with My System as expected. It’s an electro pop song with lots of lasers in the staging. Shooting up in the odds and app rankings but I don’t love it. Not sure why not, maybe I feel the song doesn’t really get going.

Portugal has Bandidos Do Cante with Rosa. A male voice harmony group with a ballad and minimal backing music - another violin on stage though - they are popular this year. It will be really different, not sure how well it might do.

And Poland is out this morning. I’m not really sure how to describe the genre. Perhaps gospel-rap? Undecided about this one. I’ll give it some time.

Is it me, or does My System remind you of the song/performance by German singers at the car show in Pitch Perfect 2?
