Our New Year's Fireworks Fantasaganza:

The Jessop family celebrate the new year - but while Rachel (Katherine Parkinson) is keen to throw party, Paul (Jim Howick) would rather go to a quiet holiday cottage.

Sitcom with Tom Basden.

waiting to see a trailer for this

sometimes it’s funny. Sometimes not

agree sometimes it doesnt hit the mark.
do love it on whole

IAmKerplunk · 27/12/2025 13:21

I love this programme - I don’t think there is one episode where I don’t laugh at least once. Half the time it’s not even the words - it’s the side eyes to the camera 😂 Can’t wait for new episode

Blondeshavemorefun · 31/12/2025 17:00

This is on tonight

Will give it a go, thanks for posting - agree they don't always hit the mark, but it is easy watching

cariadlet · 31/12/2025 18:43

It's the only programme I'm looking forward to watching tonight. Really hope it's not going to be a letdown.

Blondeshavemorefun · 31/12/2025 19:33

Me too

AndAllOurYesterdays · 31/12/2025 19:35

Watched it earlier. Perfect Xmas telly. Not to demanding, slightly heartwarming, reasonably funny

Blondeshavemorefun · 31/12/2025 22:22

I didn’t think it was that good tbh

“The baby’s covered in nugs! He’s covered in nugs, Ches!”

Robin is so often the best thing in this. His comic timing is brilliant and it’s a joy to see the chemistry between Tom Basden and Tori Allen-Martin. Glad to hear that there’s a series four in the works… for my money this is one of the best British comedies of the last ten years.

Blondeshavemorefun · 31/12/2025 22:40

I much preferred Amandaland Xmas

tho many hated that

Big shout out too to the fabulousness that is Dean… Ed Kear deserves twice as much screen time as he gets. Him replying so matter-of-factly “well not yet, no” to the question “have you milked a rat then?” was brilliant.

The ongoing gag of Sue’s slimmer’s group meeting for meals was also great.

@BlondeshavemorefunI feel like this says a lot more about our life experiences than anything else. Posh bird having posh Christmas with posh aunt in a stately home? Says nothing to me about my life. Dysfunctional family in crap satellite town trying to enjoy New Year’s Eve with weirdo hangers-on, the spectre of the Hootanany hanging over them and disappointing fireworks? I’m living it!

IAmKerplunk · 31/12/2025 23:44

I loved it. Laughed out loud a lot.
I agree with pp - Dean is brilliant! But Robin is my favourite.

Well I’m def not a posh bird but equally I’m not that dysfunctional

I’m a fan as they live in a normal house and I love that he won an Olympic medal for archery !
It is bonkers , but I just think it’s a bit of escapism as well.

isargosaword · 01/01/2026 00:53

I enjoyed it, love the show even though it’s sometimes ridiculous. All the characters are brilliant, and I find it’s one of those shows you can rewatch and catch bits you missed the first time. I enjoyed the amandaland special too, even if it wasn’t as good as the normal series.

I’m a bit in love with Robin tbh @IAmKerplunk… of course he’s a total wally but his love for Cherry is weirdly pure. They’re couple-goals in their own, strange way (apart from when she married Ian… But to be fair to her, she did dump him at the reception). Even his hobbies and interests (LARPing, collecting football stickers) are sweet. And he learned the Cubana to win Cherry back too! He’s a sweetheart.

Dean is just brilliant. One of my favourite-ever Dean moments is when he nearly dies choking on a charcoal tablet; the physical comedy both when he’s choking (and no one is noticing) and then when the stripper gives him the Heimlich manoeuvre is brilliant. The actor is excellent at physical comedy (there’s a great bit when he does an insane slide-tackle during the five-a-side match which shows his physical comedy chops too, and it’s not the point of the scene but when you see it, it’s hilarious). That’s one of the things I love about the show, there’s always little asides and looks to camera and bits going on just out of frame that you only catch on a rewatch. But my top Dean moment is when he’s driving the ice cream hearse and threatens Harry Enfield’s character who has closed the road for the street party (“move the cones, let us through, yeah? Creams are melting back here!”) by calling him an “anus” (“this one called me an anus, Sue!”)

I’ve got a chronic illness and can get pretty down in the dumps when I’m in a flare, but this show more than any other really cheers me up even at my lowest ebb. I must have seen every episode ten times, but I just love it. When I’m really ill I often put it on from episode one and just let it run… Often I’ll fall asleep to it and then wake up in pain some time later but I can’t stop myself from laughing at something on screen. I keep meaning to see if Tom Basden is on any socials because I would love to tweet him or whatever and let him know the absolute joy that this show brings me. They need to keep making them to keep cheering me up!

MrsLargeEmbodied · 01/01/2026 20:06

The shirt ripping! I think Robin’s the best character too.

the80sweregreat · 02/01/2026 13:21

I like Robin and Cherry too. She always looks fabulous doesn’t she.

Etincelle · 02/01/2026 20:37

Enjoyed this. A Slimming Club I'd be happy to be a member of. 😁
I liked Cherry calling Robin "You bell!" 😁
