New 4 parter on ch 5 - mon to Thur

Much like Channel 5 thrillers (https://tvguide.co.uk/streaming-guide/the-au-pair-channel-5-five-best-thrillers-my5-castaways-wives-ex-wife-teacher-inheritance/) The Feud and The Inheritance, The Imposter focuses on a family at war – and some pretty horrible characters.

A synopsis tells us: “A splashy seaside hotel in a coastal Victorian town becomes the centre of a bitter family dispute as matriarch Helen refuses to sell, despite pressure from her three adult children.

But Helen is hiding a secret: a daughter she gave up for adoption decades ago…”

When long lost child Amanda suddenly appears in Helen’s life, the mum welcomes her with open arms.

The lucrative hotel is the “ultimate prize” and a twisted scheme soon spirals into betrayal and ultimately, murder.

As soap actors go, here are some of the most iconic! Neighbours legend Jackie Woodburne will lead the cast as matriarch Helen. Of course, the Australian actress is most famous for playing Susan in the now axed soap. We’re told viewers will see her “like you’ve never seen before”. She certainly looks dowdy!

Kym Marsh will play Helen’s long-lost daughter Amanda, whose true intentions are unclear.

Like Jackie, Kym is perhaps best known for her soap role. She portrayed Michelle Connor in Coronation Street from 2006 to 2019. Since then, she’s hosted Morning Live, and appeared in Waterloo Road, and The Syndicate.

What a ridiculous ending!

daffodilandtulip · 19/12/2025 08:01

Well that was quite pointless really. Everyone just died. The mother went from loving mother to gullible and hating her own children, straight back into being the loving mother.

IAmKerplunk · 19/12/2025 08:49

Even by ch5 standards that was pretty dire 😂

Bill was the only nice character I think!

the80sweregreat · 19/12/2025 12:25

Bill was nice! He was obviously a goodie.
Kym played a fairly credible baddie, but like most of these dramas, they never seem to link the bad things to the new person that turns up sometimes !
Beware the new people in your life ! Lol

So Todd killed Eden , disposed of Drew Ryder's body, 'not Amanda' killed Ian and Simon killed 'not Amanda' .

They're all a bunch of murderers !

This was one of Channel 5's dramas that was so ridiculous that it was funny 😅

And SusanNotSusan suddenly was happy with her dc including actual Amanda at the end 😂

Bit confused by Danni Monogue - is she trying to get back into acting? Would have thought she would have a bigger role. Unless her name drew other actors in.

I decided after two and a half eps that, paging Sunk Cost Fallacy, there was no point in continuing something that was so daft it was barely holding my attention.

I agree.
Lack of focus or enjoyment.

yes that sums it up perfectly @butterpuffed

tho in all of that , simon gets away Scot free

he wanted to swindle his mum

will Todd keep his mouth shut about knowing Simon was in the car and left
Todd to die

the only innocent one was the daughter

What an absolute load of tosh that was. That’s 4 hours of my life I won’t get back

purpleme12 · 19/12/2025 23:21

Ah it won't win any awards but it was entertaining and that's all I expect sometimes

Pinkfluffypencilcase · 21/12/2025 13:41

“will Todd keep his mouth shut about knowing Simon was in the car and left

I guess they’re keeping each others secrets. Todd killed Eden and disposed of Ryder. Simon plotted to steal
his mum’s money (but todd doesn’t know) and left Todd to die.

Papergirl1968 · 21/12/2025 21:31

It was rubbish bit a couple of questions so I can tie it all up neatly in my mind.
Was Simon aware fake Amanda was going to push Helen off that cliff? Would he have gone along with it?
And did Helen see him push fake Amanda off the cliff? I think she did and went along with his “she has macula degeneration”
line.
I kept think Kym Marsh was Jill Halfpenny. They look and sound very similar.
As for Dannii Minogue’s lips…!

purpleme12 · 21/12/2025 21:42

Amanda hadn't told Simon that she was going to push her off but he worked it out. No he wouldn't have gone along with it because that's he pushed her off because he realised she was taking this too far and was a badun. Even more of a badun that he wanted 😆

No Helen didn't see him push her off. However she worked that he'd pushed her off but said nothing because she knew Amanda was a badun. And to protect her son.

Blondeshavemorefun · 22/12/2025 00:22

I thought Helen Did see him do it

but then thy had the call and she knew she was a fake

She's apparently Irish and speaks with an Irish accent usually. She puts on an Aussie one for Susan.

I've met her. She most definitely does not have an Irish accent.

Pointystickystick · 22/12/2025 09:41

Utterly dreadful. I’ve also been rewatching The Night Manager, in preparation for Season two. If you’ve missed it, then get over to BBC iplayer. You won’t be disappointed.

Papergirl1968 · 23/12/2025 21:43

Being off sick with a pre-Christmas chest infection, I’m catching up on a few things I’ve missed.
I’m now halfway through The Holiday with channel five mini series regular Jill Halfpenny!

IAmKerplunk · 23/12/2025 21:50

Aww I like Jill Halfpenny and will watch anything she is in 😂

Papergirl1968 · 24/12/2025 06:51

No wonder The Holiday is vaguely familiar. It’s nearly three years old so I’ve almost certainly seen it before!
C5 - and ITV - seem to be churning these dramas out at a rate of knots. Some seem to be going straight to streaming.
