I'm absolutely loving it so came looking for a thread. Some of them are SO irritating and the rookie mistakes are very funny. It's really made me want to move to the Dordogne though!

Nichola and Roy welcome their first guests on a New Life on the sUn next Friday.

I've just finished watching the series on catch up.

I can't imagine how the winning couple are going to manage living and running a business in France as they didn't seem to speak a single word of french.

the male couple in the final shouldn't have been in the competition at all as one of them wasn't even planning to live in France if they won.

And how did the crabby tightly-wound woman (married to the sports guy) who seemed attached to her ironing board get picked for the heats? She was a total meltdown in progress.

The whole programme was a stitch up.

Baffling.

Here's the link to their webpage if anyone's interested.

The explore the area page is a broken link, not a good start.

AlwaysRightISwear · 04/01/2026 11:32

But Nicola gave them a lovely write up on Sawdays.

The name of the business is from their cat Mr Morgan, as seen on the business Facebook page.

Ayleen · 04/01/2026 12:27

Yes, absolutely agree. I could not understand how such undeserving people ended up on this show. And I don't think the winners will keep it either. Reckon it will be up for sale soon.

It's working fine for me, but the text is all jumbled up and in some places it's layered up and unreadable.

I wish them well and hope they make a success of it. The area has so much to offer but is off the traditional tourist routes/attractions. That will make being successful really hard.

Looking at their webpage, seems breakfast is priced as an extra ~ quite unusual for a b&b

Letthemeatgateau · 04/01/2026 17:22

Continental breakfast is included, which would be the norm.

AlwaysRightISwear · 04/01/2026 17:57

Yes just the cooked option is extra.

Ayleen · 04/01/2026 20:05

Charging extra for breakfast when they got a free bnb. How tight.

They aren't.... Unless you want a massive fry up.

Ayleen · 05/01/2026 07:03

A massive fry up should be included.
You are paying for bed and BREAKFAST!

AlwaysRightISwear · 05/01/2026 07:05

Maybe people don't want it as often in hot weather?

Nica07 · 05/01/2026 07:28

Tea and coffee is mentioned as being part of the package, but no mention of stay being inclusive of continental breakfast. But perhaps just an oversight?
Fry up version carries extra cost

Ayleen · 05/01/2026 10:41

Breakfast is taken into the cost of the room.. Did you see the breakfasts they gave the guests and judges every day? Same should be carried on.

'Each room provides the same thoughtful touches as the main suite, with a continental breakfast included for all guests.'

From their website.

Fry ups for breakfast would be very unusual here in France. That's why they're extra.

Ayleen · 05/01/2026 18:01

Most of their guests will probably be British and Irish and will expect a cooked breakfast as they are not used to continental.

Letthemeatgateau · 06/01/2026 10:02

Why would their guests be British and Irish? The majority of the visitors to the area are from large French cities.

Bulbsbulbsbulbs · 06/01/2026 11:23

I think people who stay in small French B and B's for their holidays are used to continental breakfasts.

OP posts:
Ayleen · 06/01/2026 11:54

How do you know that? And surely being able to speak French should be a must, running a b#b in France?
It would be the equivalent of a French couple running a b#b in UK and not speaking English!

Ayleen · 06/01/2026 11:56

If you stay with a French couple yes, you would expect that. They are an Irish couple who are used to cooking a full english so I would expect that included.

Bulbsbulbsbulbs · 06/01/2026 12:59

I stayed at a lovely B and B in France recently. An English couple ran it, in the French style, so continental breakfast in the garden. They only spoke rudimentary French but had lots of French guests. I'm sure they were capable of knocking up a full English but didn't want to, and most people wouldn't want that as they are there to experience French culture.

When you book a b and b you don't generally look at the nationality of the owners do you? You just book based on location and facilities.

OP posts:
Ayleen · 06/01/2026 13:14

I personally found the food very bland when I was on holiday in France and would have given anything for a full english. Cold Continental buffet is a lazy offering. . Let the guest choose what they want for breakfast rather then what's easiest for the owners.

Ayleen · 06/01/2026 13:15

Well, open up their world and give them a nice hot greasy breakfast.
