I'm absolutely loving it so came looking for a thread. Some of them are SO irritating and the rookie mistakes are very funny. It's really made me want to move to the Dordogne though!

A lot I'd like to say on that but I'll keep my mouth shut 🤬

cambiotica · 11/12/2025 17:00

I’m wondering whether the prize is full ownership of the house or just a rental agreement

I wondered if it was a lease for a set number of years or something like that. I know property in France can be cheaper than the UK but that looks like a nice big house and must be worth a bit. Prizes on some shows are going into the hundred thousand range but this would be a lot more than that.

Costacoffeeplease · 11/12/2025 17:19

I started watching as we moved to southern Europe 23 years ago. Never did B&B but did have holiday rentals.

I didn't make it to the end of the first week - a combination of ridiculous but tedious challenges, and irritating guests and hosts made for awful television

Nica07 · 12/12/2025 15:58

Looking forward to learning the winners today
Either Nicole & Brett or Nichola and Roy are my winners
Of the two couples, Michelle & Steve are too over the top and probably not overly authentic beyond their 2 weeks under the microscope
Get sense Justin and Paul will all but down tools, kick back and celebrate thereafter were they to go on to win . . wonder who it's going to be😀

cambiotica · 12/12/2025 17:58

Ahhh, I think the right couple won. Well done. I hope they make a go of it.

Rictasmorticia · 12/12/2025 18:31

Definitely the right couple won. They had the life skills and such kind natures. The two guys were ever really committed to it. I feel if they had won they would have done a make over then sold. Going into the competition without even committing to live in the house was a big no for me.

The irritating couple from Yorkshire were too full of themselves, The other two were too young with a weak business plan.

Rictasmorticia · 12/12/2025 18:42

The couple of Sports Coaches were definitely not suited to be B&B hosts. Saying on camera that she “would make the Judges coffee so strong, she would regret asking for it” was crass. The guest who said that they had no place in the hospitality industry was right.

Ayleen · 12/12/2025 18:50

It was obvious from the beginning who the judges favorite couple were and indeed they won like I knew they would. With him being a chef and the missus playing the humble act all the time and all the crying and soda bread, they knew they were front runners.
The younger couple should have won it as they have the young energy and drive.

Ayleen · 12/12/2025 18:51

Thank goodness it's over!!

AlwaysRightISwear · 12/12/2025 19:11

I think on the whole the right choice. I did like Nicole and Brett though and hope they can get where they want to be eventually.

Ayleen · 12/12/2025 19:31

I don't think any of them deserved it. Found them all really irritating.
Can't stand the couple who won, crying and trying to appear humble all the time.. Something tells me they will appear very different once they are running it. Reckon they will sell it within a year. Lol

Hufflebuffs · 12/12/2025 20:03

I think the right couple one. The 2 men were too focussed on interior design when actually guests would just want a fresh croissant in the morning. The noisy couple were too noisy, one of the judges said you came away needing peace and quiet so who would go there for a restful holiday in the French countryside. The young couple were good, but I think they would have struggled too much with the reality of French life with young kids to fully commit.

The winner didn’t cry all the time at all, she cried twice maybe?! Well done them.

I don't think they do get outright ownership ~ need more than 2 weeks non-prime time tv to raise that kind of cash.
Think they get full use of it for couple of years, to realise their business, or in this couple's case, more low key acumen.
Think the judges keep eye on them, terms of bookings over those two years too ~ unsure where I gleaned any of this from, but it's my understanding of the process

Ayleen · 13/12/2025 08:37

She cried in every episode actually and so did the husband. Pulled on the heartstrings of the judges.
The young couple should have won it. They had the drive, energy and focus and surprisingly never cried.
The two that won it were crafty and I think they had a game plan.
In my opinion, it will be up for sale within the year.

AlwaysRightISwear · 13/12/2025 08:43

The prize was in the Limousin not the Dordogne where the heats were filmed.

Why would anyone not have a game plan in a competition? They all had game plans.

There is no way the young couple could keep up the level of work they were putting in if their children were there, it was very artificial to be child free for the competition. I don’t think anyone really wants a full Irish breakfast or a curry when it’s 35 degrees and you are in the middle or rural France either.

gerispringer · 13/12/2025 08:58

There will probably be another series where they go back and see how they got on.
the right couple won and if I was looking to stay overnight in a French B and B Id want a clean room, nice breakfast and hosts who know when to stay in the background. They ticked those boxes. Didn’t like the in your face Barnsley couple or the two guys who were OTT giving the judges cushions didn’t work fortunately. The young couple were lovely but naive, wouldn’t cope with looking after their children and doing all that cooking and putting stickers on everything. Not mention, not mention they hadn’t a clue about French language.

Ayleen · 13/12/2025 09:11

How do you know what people want for their breakfast in 35 degree heat? Ever been to Spain? That's all the Brits eat there.
And I would imagine they had the child care plan in place. I think they have older children that go to school or maybe her parents were going to help with that.
I don't want to stay in a b&b where I am offered soda bread and croissants with a side order of tears thrown in.
Anyone with any sense would sell it and enjoy the money.

Hufflebuffs · 13/12/2025 09:27

The crying really didn’t bother me. I just felt they really wanted it. I’d rather go to their b&b then any other, but I’m sure the young couple will succeed in whatever they do because the wife in particular was a grafter.

Bulbsbulbsbulbs · 13/12/2025 16:31

There must have been some sort of rule that you would have to have a right to remain in France, ie European passport. Otherwise its very difficult, thanks Brexit. I have looked into moving to France and it was too difficult. I'm also wondering if this series was originally intended to be on prime time TV as the prize is so huge for a day time programme.

Running a B and B is hard work and relentless if you are doing dinner. 7 days a week, always 'on' and you aren't going to make a huge amount of money.

That was an awful temper moment, totally agree.

@Ayleenits funny because I’m catching up. Don’t mind who wins, just easy viewing.

But I’ve been convinced the above couple were the favourite from the start. The coffee fencing couple. All those mistakes with bed linen. yet the judges loved them. I love how we all see it differently. I couldn’t believe they missed the sheet the third time.

I am enjoying it so far.

I do love these programmes though. I am enjoying four in a bed being shown in full while I’m multitasking of an evening.

Ayleen · 17/12/2025 20:16

It was moderately entertaining. Like you said, it was obvious who was the teacher's pets.. And who was going to win. I just didn't like the couple.
I think the French judge wanted the young couple to win.
It would have been better if they had French couples competing as well to see how differently they would do it.

SwirlyGates · 17/12/2025 20:25

I've seen one episode of this, and it was bizarre to me. One couple said they wanted lots of free time to chill and explore - surely that's not what you get when running a B&B. Another couple (or more than one) didn't speak French. Madness. And the prize seems far too expensive - don't most TV competitions just have a token prize? Were there just 3 couples in the whole series? It's even more bizarre as a prize if so.

Letthemeatgateau · 17/12/2025 20:28

The prize property isn't in the Dordogne, so it won't be worth anywhere near what people imagine - maybe around €200k if that. We don't live far away. It'll be difficult for the couple to make a profit I think - to us it's a wonderful part of France, but it's not for everyone. Very quiet, small population and not many tourists, despite its beauty.

Ayleen · 17/12/2025 23:31

Yes, anyone could have won that competition. None of them brought anything to the table that most people couldn't bring..
Amazed me how little they had to do to win such a big prize. Couple that won were always going to win with him being a chef and her being the humble subservient mummy figure.
There should have been lots of people competing, not just a few chosen ones.
