Something to watch with my 10yr old daughter

ApisMellifera · 05/11/2025 11:42

My 10 year old daughter and I have just finished watching ghosts together, which she loved, although the ending made her sad. Most of the slightly risque stuff seemed to go over her head, eg she thought Julian had no trousers because he died on the toilet...
Anyway we're looking for something new to watch and I'd welcome some suggestions. She likes stuff like junior bake off and sewing bee. She loved Just Add Magic and still enjoys Bluey! We've watched all the Horrible Histories already and she's not all that enthusiastic about Malory Towers when I suggest it.
We have Disney, Netflix and Apple as well as BBC iPlayer etc.
I'd love some suggestions for the next thing to watch together.

Only Fools and Horses - a few old fashioned attitudes here and there but mostly okay and you can pick and choose the episodes as there are not that many long story arcs.

Desmondhasabarrow · 05/11/2025 13:22

We watch Lego masters and try to do the challenges, watch British bake off and then make bakes inspired by it at the weekend. Also still love Bluey!

BlueWorkDay · 05/11/2025 13:23

DD (9) loves GBBO, Junior Taskmaster, and The Great British Sewing Bee.

LIZS · 05/11/2025 13:48

Bill, by the same Ghosts/HH team.

askmenothing · 05/11/2025 13:57

Once upon a time - I watched it with my DD at the same age and we loved it!

PermanentlyExhaustedPigeonZZZ · 05/11/2025 14:00

My 11 DD is actually really enjoying Miss marple with my DH. She is a big Dr Who fan and watched the back catalogue of the reboot series an ep a week.

She likes bake off but is too chatty for me!

My 9-year-old DD and I have really enjoyed watching the Traitors together. It obviously does have some swearing in it, which makes me cringe a bit, but otherwise nothing unsuitable. She really loves the tension and game element of it, and enjoys the missions. Actually the celebrity version has far less swearing in it which has been better!

Also have enjoyed Baking Impossible, Sing On and Is it Cake?, all on Netflix.

Celebrity traitors
design masters
adult bake off

Arran2024 · 05/11/2025 21:13

When my girls were that age they loved Good Luck Charlie and I enjoyed it too.

Ooogle · 05/11/2025 21:15

Mine also loves ghosts and likes the American one (I haven’t tried the American one yet, can’t see how it can top the British one). She loves GBBO, traitors and gladiators when it’s on.

MedusasHead · 05/11/2025 21:18

So I watched Ghosts with my 9 yo DD. We also like to watch Bake Off, Junior Taskmaster, Sort your life out and after falling in love with Stacey Solomon we’ve watched a few episodes of Joe and Stacey on IPlayer. We’re also watching The Sewing Bee and the odd episode of Traitors.

Family friendly reality shows seem to work well with her, though I’d like to find some more series too.

ThatGreenFawn · 05/11/2025 21:18

We've started watching Dinosaurs on Disney (the 90s program) 11 yr old dc think its hilarious and i forgot how good it was too.

SamHain25 · 05/11/2025 21:21

The US one isn’t really suitable for primary age, far more overt sexual references.

TeaRoseTallulah · 05/11/2025 21:23

Friday Night Dinner
GBBO
Pottery Throw Down
Ghosts

Pes0penguin · 05/11/2025 21:29

Mine is a bit older but some we’ve enjoyed in the 9-12years:
Malcolm in the middle, Young Sheldon, Modern Family, Malory towers, Anne with an e, the simpsons, Taskmaster (can get bleeped versions on channel 4), LEGO masters, the dog house, great pottery throw down

Greenislandsunset · 05/11/2025 21:42

Prime Just Add Magic. We weren't sure at first, seemed a bit cheesy but stick with it!

MedusasHead · 05/11/2025 21:45

I’ve just remembered that someone recommended Brooklyn Nine Nine for family viewing. Really good male role models, funny and clean content!

Tiberius12 · 05/11/2025 21:46

Ive got a 10 year old. We've recently watched Wednesday together. Shes also been enjoying celebrity Traitors with me.

Socialworkmama · 05/11/2025 21:48

My 12 year old is obsessed with Ghosts, has watched series several times. She also loves Shakespeare and Hathaway and is rewatching now to prepare for new season

Simonjt · 05/11/2025 21:50

Heartstopper is really good, and malcolm in the middle.

Girliefriendlikespuppies · 05/11/2025 21:59

If you’ve got Netflix Anne with an E is great.

I personally dont think heartstopper is suitable for a 10 year old.

YellowStockings · 05/11/2025 22:16

10yo DD and I have just watched the two Enola Holmes films, which were excellent. She also loves A Series of Unfortunate Events. Both on Netflix!

CoddledAsAMommet · 05/11/2025 22:23

My 10 year old loves Ghosts too.
I know this is left-field, but she also loves Blankety Blank (with Bradley Walsh) and Would I Lie To you.

At this age DS liked Some Mothers Do Ave 'Em!

Anne with an E , Mallory Towers are good children's programmes.
