Something to watch with my 10yr old daughter

My 10 year old daughter and I have just finished watching ghosts together, which she loved, although the ending made her sad. Most of the slightly risque stuff seemed to go over her head, eg she thought Julian had no trousers because he died on the toilet...
Anyway we're looking for something new to watch and I'd welcome some suggestions. She likes stuff like junior bake off and sewing bee. She loved Just Add Magic and still enjoys Bluey! We've watched all the Horrible Histories already and she's not all that enthusiastic about Malory Towers when I suggest it.
We have Disney, Netflix and Apple as well as BBC iPlayer etc.
I'd love some suggestions for the next thing to watch together.

Another vote for The Durrells here.
Dodger is good too.0

Agree with Dodger! Great fun.

Both me and my 10 year old enjoyed A series of Unfortunate events (Netflix) and Little Lunch (BBC iplayer). They are both series.

Dora and the lost city of gold (Netflix) was really entertaining for a kids film!

Watch A Series of Unfortunate Events | Netflix Official Site

The extraordinary Baudelaire orphans face trials, tribulations and the evil Count Olaf in their fateful quest to unlock long-held family secrets.

Yes both Little Lunch and The Inbestigators are great - same Australian production company IIRC. Really funny and charming. Little Lunch in particular is genius.

Mine also loves ghosts and likes the American one (I haven’t tried the American one yet, can’t see how it can top the British one). She loves GBBO, traitors and gladiators when it’s on.

The American one is awful.

Is it cake? is good fun.

frodss · 07/11/2025 07:40

Here we go on BBC

ItalianChineseIndianMexican · 07/11/2025 20:31

Yes to Traitors, Race Across the World, Malory Towers, Ghosts.

My DD also enjoys The Next Step and Thundermans (me not so much!).

Also Gladiators, Ninja Warrior, 1% Club, Bake Off, Sewing Bee, any David Attenborough or animal programmes.

Amazing shout re Celebrity Traitors - we're absolutely loving it! We've watched 2 episodes of Once upon a Time - it's a bit dark but she does like it. Thanks everyone, we have lots here to enjoy together xxx

Merlin. Total favourite tv series for my dd, that one was. It came out in 2008 when she was 9, and she loved it. Agree with @MineisanAperol about this one.

I also think that a look back on old comedy series is a good shout - 'Allo 'Allo, Only Fools, Porridge, Dads Army, Open all Hours. Mine liked Last of the Summer Wine.

BreakfastClub80 · 07/11/2025 21:12

His Dark Materials? Or is this a bit too old?

Nettleskeins · 07/11/2025 21:16

Merlin

My DD spent one Christmas absolutely entranced by Some Mothers Do Ave ‘Em. To be honest, if you’d told me in 1985 that I’d be having to watch it again in the 2020s there’s no way I would have believed you 😆🤣🤦‍♀️

ltscoldonthesidelines · 07/11/2025 23:17

Merlin, it’s great crossover tv.

Older shows are good for kids because of the gentle pacing - modern shows are generally much faster paced, highly edited into chunks, sensory overloaded with music, lighting etc.

LuckyCharmz · 08/11/2025 09:01

Anne with an E
Gilmore Girls

Me & my 9 year old have just finished a massive binge on doctor who. (After years of trying to get him to watch it Grin). Bake off, young sheldon, malcolm in the middle has been another win too.

Mauvehoodie · 08/11/2025 09:16

My DS is 13 now but we loved Just add magic! Things we have enjoyed (most of these happen to be animated but we watch all sorts) are:

Camp cretaceous
A tale dark and grimm
kipo and the age of wonderbeasts
the last avatar
The legend of Korra
Wednesday (maybe a bit old though)

we also watched all the Harry Potter and Star Wars films as if they were series, a bit at a time.

I’m hoping to get DS onto Ghosts so glad your DD liked it.

Funderthighs · 08/11/2025 09:18

The Middle was a great favourite in our house.
